not trolling or speculating
I want to get into programming
for fun mostly (it would be nice to be able to create programs for various uses) but also it would be nice to be able to make enough money from home doing programming to live a comfortable life.
so
how can I program from home and make enough money to buy a house and pay all the bills and eat -
2019-04-23 at 7:28 PM UTCand for the record I don't want to work for a company

Step 1 is learn to program, which you're going to maybe try for 30 minutes and give up. The following steps are learning about the stuff involved in professional programming that isn't really programming, practicing for technical interviews, interviewing, getting a job, then either negotiating that job to be remote or working non-remote for a stint while campaigning to work remote.
All this takes multiple years.

not going to happen, freelance does not pay well. Trying to sell your own software is difficult more likely to turn a loss than a profit. -
2019-04-23 at 8:09 PM UTCAll the successful 'freelance' programmers I've met have just leveraged personal connections with big companies to sell their terrible, terrible software
-
2019-04-23 at 9:10 PM UTCI've seen some freelance "consultants" make lots of coin and they don't even really need to do that much direct coding.
But these are typically individuals with upwards of a decade of work experience, and demonstrate exceptional expertise in a particular area.
But you can't just be any geek off the street.
Gotta be handy with the steel if you know what I mean... Earn ya keep.

2019-04-23 at 9:39 PM UTCStep 0: go back in time before you made this thread and instead of making it, start reading about programming

Why? I hope it's not because you're a gamer. Most gamers I've come across don't like programming. I'm not into video games anymore but I don't mind making them.
It can be like a big complex puzzle at times. Dealing with variables, types, loops, conditional statements, all tangled together.
Is that really what you want in your life? -

I'm not sure what I want for my life at this point.
Up until now I have lived in a state of chaos and nihilism.
if I get into game development it's because I want to create something that doesn't already exist.
I truly love gaming, it has been a major part of my life since I was five years old, but the sad truth is that the culture is surrounded by a corrupt industry and the games they're making are shit.
So I have given up on gaming (except for the upcoming Animal Crossing and Pokemon games).
When I make a game it's going to be something that needs to exist, something that the soulless mega corporations would never publish. -

The developers of RPG Maker have made a Visual Novel Maker.
I'm going to try that out. -
2019-04-24 at 12:40 AM UTCalso I know about Renpy, I might use that to learn python.

"not trolling or speculating"
"I've put zero effort into learning anything"
"I refuse to acknowledge posts answering my question because I want it to be easy"
You disgust me and I regret wasting my time trying to help you at all. -
