    Most wars since WWII have been energy wars to control the flow of oil and LPG, and of course the oil companies have been both major instigators and beneficiaries.
    
    The current state of relations between Iran and the US is in no small part due to BP instigating the overthrow of Mossadegh back in the 50s, the Iraq war was largely to give majority control over the oilfields to Halliburton, the actions against Venezuela are largely meant to allow private oil companies to re-enter the country, the Yemen war is largely to allow Saudi Arabia to maintain extremely lucrative contracts on Yemeni oil wells, etc. etc. etc.
