How to teach people things?

2016-11-27 at 1:52 AM UTCI've been put in charge of a couple people at work, they need to learn a lot of things to be productive. There are people you can throw a load of material facts at and who will absorb it, then there's people who need to be actively educated as opposed to fed information. The folks I'm concerned about are in the latter group. I can spew trivia to an arbitrary level of detail at these people but I often feel like it's pretty ineffective as a teaching technique, they sometimes lack the context to absorb the details and sometimes I realize well after the fact I'm presenting something at the wrong level of abstraction. The particular situation pertains to programming, but my understanding of education as a discipline is exactly nil so I imagine more basic/general material will still be useful.
SO! Are there any good books on education for people who aren't career educators? Any general tips? I don't really want to dive into the state of the art on education research but on the other hand I'd like something better than "joe blow was an educator for 4 years, let him regale you with some anecdotes", preferably something that reflects a synthesis of what is a pretty large field for non-professionals.

It doesn't seem beyond the realm of the possible. I wouldn't have been surprised if malice had some relevant links or books (you'd think someone with such an interest in neurogenesis and cognitive enhancement would have read up on the subject before) but it looks like that's not the case.
Besides, teaching people things seems like a pretty general life experience, surely there are people here who have been in a similar situation. -

That's true I guess. I've always found it odd how different people remember things. I've realized that the way I remember and learn things can be very different than how other people do it. That's all I got lolzzz -

I've led groups before and I've figured out that some people just can't work with words. Visual learners etc. Trial and error works best for those.
You probably don't have to teach them programming but specialized tasks so a notebook with generalized step by step procedures(?) regarding those tasks is probably not a bad idea.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

Pretty much this. Just make a series of instructional videos, and you can edit them to perfection. If people have questions your videos did not address, they are welcome to ask you.
As you know, everyone learns differently. Some learn best by reading, some by listening, and others by doing. Therefore, include subtitles in your videos and insert mini projects or assignments that pertain to the topic at hand. -
