I might buy a car today. More specifically, I'm thinking a pickup truck, ideally 4 wheel drive and even offroad ready. I plan to attach either a trailer, camper, or 5th wheeler for camping and whatnot.
There are a fuck ton of things I am incredibly knowledgeable about, but car stuff, mechanics, etc, are a weak area for me.
I don't want to buy what seems like a decent car during the test drive only to find out it's an absolute lemon once I get it home.
Like, if I pop open the hood, what should I look for? Should I be listening for any specific sounds/noises while I'm driving it? What can I determine during and after turning the ignition before I even start driving? Should I stress test it in any way like maybe driving it up a steep hill or actually taking it off road (if the owner lets me)?
If there are any leaks/puddles/fluids of any kind underneath the vehicle, is that a 100% red flag?
I might actually update this thread as I look at each vehicle so I can get some live feedback and reasonable price expectations.
Y'all have a chance to really help a fellow space nigga out. Like for real, straight up.

For what you're willing to spend, I recommend a good mountain bike.
A reliable 4wd for under $1000?
Put down the crack pipe.

Like I don't give a fuck if I have to make like $400 car payments every other week, but I don't know if my credit is good enough, especially considering I am currently sans employment.
E.I. is steady income for the next year, but is that good enough for a car dealership line of credit?

I wonder if I could just be like "yo, I'm actually guaranteed a job as a SkipTheDishes courier, I just need this vehicle first."

Y'all being some unhelpful ass bitches yo.
I'm willing to pay more money, but who on this site even has more than $2G's just sitting in a chequing account.
Probably some, but I know it's by no means the majority.

My theoretical budget is $50k, maybe more, IF they give me a line of credit.

You really have to catch someone desperate for cash to sell a running anything for a grand or less. I wanted a beater that was cheap on gas to drive back and forth to work and didn’t find anything that wasn’t a mess for under 2k.
Some ppl are pretty naive about cars tho. You catch someone who doesn’t know how to work on cars getting rid of one with a few fixable problems, because they want a new ride.

Forget about garages. They add at least $1,000 to the real price just for selling a car.
OTOH you can definitely get a vehicle for less than $1,000 that will last years if maintained.
Go for something private and dirty. There's lots of old cars around that people just want to get rid of, but expect to have to clean it up a lot.
Also all the usual crap about cars - insurance, tax, tests, etc.

Note "Salvage" with almost 300,000 miles. It was probably in a flood. Wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
You might be able to pick up a decent used minivan in your price range. It wouldn't be 4wd but, with the rear seats removed, can haul quite a bit of stuff.

I've seen 300,000 KMs a lot.
(By the way, I'm in Canada, we're the freak country that sometimes uses metric but also sometimes uses imperial (for example, I have no idea how many meters tall I am or how many kilograms I weigh).
