2019-03-22 at 4:53 PM UTCI used to own a '74 VW Beetle convertible (yellow with a black top) that would go anywhere in the snow. The problem was that, at the time, I lived in the actual City of St. Louis and they only plow the main streets. The roads would just end up with icy ruts in all of the side streets. The icy center ridge, because the bug sat so low, ripped the floorboard right out of the car. I could look down and see the road between my feet! I loved that little doodlebug!!!

the dont plow the streets for crap here, and winter lasts like 6-7 months. I have (well, might not anymore if its deemed totaled) a honda civic which has terrible clearance and doesn't do well at all in the snow. Makes me want to look for like an AWD crossover (as much as I depise those putrid things) or maybe one of those new AWD cars on like volvos and suburus.
o, sorry.
i always forgot you have snow problem there. -

I'd be happier if I accidentally stepped out in front of a modern vehicle with computer assisted brakes than if I accidentally stepped out in front of you coming in your drum-braked hippy bus. -

2019-03-22 at 11:25 PM UTChaving a car that tries to save you but accidentally kills you is kinda stupid,, they even say in the adds that the car may not do what its spossed to do when it takes over.

2019-03-23 at 12:01 AM UTCModern cars are - no shit - amazing for how little they rust. A lot of it has to do with them being dipped in epoxy in the factory, a lot has to do with metallurgy and incremental improvements.
For instance my VW is 17 years old(!), and has rust spots on the bonnet, but the rust doesn't spread or bury under the paint or anything. They tend to just rust, and the rust just sits there and protects the metal underneath. In older cars the rust spread like leprosy or something, even I remember seeing rust bubbling up under paint. -
2019-03-23 at 12:11 AM UTCcars only last 10 years up here before the rust out

2019-03-23 at 4 AM UTCeh, idk my 97 s10 only had a mild/moderate amount of rust under the wheels, was protected by a gay running board i took off after i bought it. I don't remember if my 01 park ave was rusted or not, probably was. My 06 lucerne was rust free, as well as my 04 jeep, and my 12 is obv fine.
but yeah, the 7 month winters and 100% humid 100 degree summers fuck cars up pretty good here fam -
2019-03-24 at 10:06 PM UTCMy 18 rental car has a lot of that shit. Lane divert steering assistance, pre collision brake sensing, yada ying. It doesn't have blind spot detection though, the only useful one.
I think the 19s have cruise control sensing, so they speed up or slow down to keep with traffic. That sounds pretty dope actually. -

the pre-collision brake might come in handy that 1/1000 times while driving you, nearly ram into the back of someone for a fraction of a fraction.. when some asshole hard-stops in front of you on a bridge.

Until some ass-hole hard stops in front of you quicker than it can process the change. :| -
2019-03-25 at 1:18 AM UTCThe warning actually came on today when some dum dum stopped after a green light. It wasn't close enough for it to engage the brakes itself, but it shot me a message on the hud.
