They have one big hydroelectric dam that supplies the majority of the state's power; one or more reactors within it failed - it wasn't the entire grid, but the failure/s cut output.
US foreign policy mouthpieces are claiming it's due to 'socialism' and improper maintenance, Maduro's stated two saboteurs are in custody being questioned. I haven't seen anything definitive yet - no hard evidence has been released.
China has offered to upgrade the country's electrical infrastructure now though, so if nothing else is released it'll be interesting what they have to say about it's current state.

Also I wonder how "hack proof" Chinese industrial controls are.
I mean the Chinese aren't exactly known for software so much. For instance Huawei has been caught just copying the software from Cisco routers, verbatim, bugs/backdoors and all.
The following users say it would be alright if the author of this

Whatever it is, it’s gotta be better than the shit Venezuala was using before

Various CIA backed "Youth Movements" have been instructed to target critical infrastructure to stir the shit stew and create more civil unrest by affecting more people. More people upset at the government means more pressure on Maduro, if the CIA gets lucky Maduro will do something stupid in response. If and when that happens you can bet your bottom dollar there will be calls(Followed by action) for some kind of forceful intervention to get the guy deposed. I mean John fucking Bolton is already walking around with files and notes that say "5000 Troops to Venezuala". What a mong.
Remember when they said Maduro burned the "aid" trucks? There's been videos where it looks like local people are filling up Molotov cocktails and flinging them at the food trucks and police. If they really are locals, aren't these people supposed to be poor as fuck? From what i understand the economical sanctions against Maduro have made the situation so bad, people are starving in the streets. Don't tell me they started a GoFundMe to buy 25 gallons of gasoline to go set supposed food trucks on fire.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Software is limited by the hardware available to it, so that makes sense they're focused on hardware. Reverse engineering hardware isn't quite as simple as reverse engineering software, either.. No code required to take out an electrical grid. No EMPs either really. It's pretty easy. Maybe this will teach them not to rely so much on a centralized power grid. The world needs renewable sources of energy. If you put all your eggs in one basket this sort of thing happens that much easier.
