    What country are you in?

    I've only been caught shoplifting once (this was like 13 years ago), but I got let go on a technicality, so I actually have no experience with being charged with shoplifting.

    Im in the u.s, no cops involved fortunately but im sure they'll want their money.

    I get let go(run away) sometimes also. Only had a few foot chases...true stories.

    I can't imagine they'll file civil charges over $5, but in the future, you can always check your county court's online records to see how often Walmart prosecutes these cases assuming you're in the US.
