It's because apparently lanny created a dating site then shut it down and sent everyone here. It may be that lanny is working with the feds in an attempt to water down and dilute any sort of anarchist related online community by flooding with internet dating retards that can't control their hormones or contribute any kind of useful technical information to a site similar to totse.
Or maybe it's just a weird social experiment lanny is doing. Who knows. -

All the paranoid conspiracy theories aside, I do agree that this site has become somewhat far removed from what Totse once was in it's heyday.
I actually don't mind the DH crowd. It's not them that annoy me. It's more the HB-style posters posting HB-style stuff everywhere.
HB is fun for a bit of silliness and all, but Totse used to have serious discussions in it's subforums.
The problem is that we just need more serious posters, and enough traffic to warrant moderators for subforums so that Lanny can delegate some of the keeping-things-on-topic work.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

Anybody who has proven themselves trustworthy of having, at least, the capability to post quality content, will be allowed to enter and post about whatever topic they like.
Membership would NOT be exclusive, and I'd imagine most posters should be allowed in. Could even be like the word game where its as simple as opting in after xxx posts. If you're shit posting in there, you get removed.
But then, of course, the quality of the rest of the site would go down. And then everything would be shit, but its already shit, so it'd only be double, even triple shit. Just shit from the neck down, head to toes, covered completely and totally in shit and nothing but. -

A blanket member whitelist isn't even all that necessary.
If we had enough traffic to warrant it, then it would make sense to assign moderators to the subforums. Right now, I don't know how reasonably necessary that would be.
Back on Totse when I was a regular poster there (2004-2008), order was maintained pretty well.
The kind of threads you get in SG, B&M, and HB here and now are not all that different from back then (for the most part, at least).
And you could really have your cake and eat it too; at least, in the sense that some posters would shitpost and be silly and post memes and whatnot in the more general forums (SG, B&M, and HB), but also engage in serious discussion in the topical subforums.
It worked really well, and I believe it could here as well.
It's just that there's a hard-to-quantify tipping point where the activity really warrants assigning moderators to delegate the responsibility of maintaining order.
The topical subforums only get a couple new threads, and a handful of new posts/replies, per day, and that's even on a particularly busy day. Moderators would likely be overkill. -
2019-03-10 at 1:06 AM UTCAs a last ditch effort to save valid discussion, I banned a bunch of kidiots on Zoklet. Made a lot of enemies amongst the kiddies for it. Once I finally resigned, due to direct threats from zok against me and several mods who were also trying to clean the place up, all the kidiots and their enablers piled up on us even further. Lanny even went so far as to put over TEN THOUSAND 10-day bans on my account, even though I had personally broken no rules (then he got booted off the mod team and permabanned for banning me for the 273 years, so I ended up getting the last laugh on him). But, yeah, these retards will fight to the death to keep on pumping out their retardedness, Lanny included. Don't fool yourself. I remember Metaphysicist being probably the strictest hardass in SG. Over the top, in my opinion. A huge percentage of threads started in SG were transferred elsewhere (typically either Bitch and Moan or Half Baked / Bat Country).

I never said Infinityshock's posts were not spam. Of course, they are spam. He knows it, you know it, and I know it. But it's a righteous spam. There's a difference. A big difference. Just retards posting totally worthless posts and swamping the entire forum with useless garbage. For example, "mod ball". When it got to me, I'd throw it in the Trash Can. I was the only mod who did that. Or they'd start posting reams of these dumb and unfunny kidiot pics and gifs. Another way they'd spam is post hundreds of one-word replies, or they'd try to deliberately derail and swamp the discussion with empty personal attacks outside the bitching forum. The kidiots have a hundred ways they can stifle honest discussion. It's like a game to them. And, sure, that's fine... in the forum designed for it, which is Half Baked. Ok, I hear you on most of that. But the thing is, there exists, at times, a thin line between obnoxious off-topic posting and legitimate posting. I have tried looking through infinityshock's post history to see if there ever was the fabled golden age when he would post on topic and actually contribute to serious discussions... I found some, but VERY SCANT, evidence of such posting way back when. However, the majority of it was dick pic requests and repeatedly posting ridiculous racist meme pics of black people holding up signs photoshopped to say they're dumb, etc.
When you were banning the so-called kidiots, you were doing EXACTLY what Lanny is doing now.

There's no hypocrisy whatsoever involved. If you look at infinityshock's posts from Totse's golden years, in the days when valid discussion ruled, his posts were all powerful and informative. No spam; all knowledgeable and informative posts. Look them up for yourself on the WayBack Machine. The only reason he started posting like that here is because Lanny refused to shape an environment which would be conductive to the environment the likes of he and I and others were happy with. Lanny would rathered the Liberal anything-goes environment. So why should knowledgeable posters and honest contributors have to throw pearls to swine? They shouldn't.
