2019-03-05 at 5:49 PM UTCcod4 was such a good game, don't know how they fucked it up so badly since

2019-03-05 at 6:07 PM UTCWas COD4 actually good tho? It was the same old running with rifles and ketchup screen splatter that the CoD franchise has been doing for like the last 20 games. Mechanically it's pretty similar, the story was dumb as it always is, the graphics weren't bad for the era but unimpressive now. What was good about it?

It was good when it came out. Way more cinematic than previous installments, and had that fast run n' gun action that CoD has now regurgitated for more than a decade. The maps were really well built and had a lot of balance too. The killstreak feature was new and exciting. Nothing better than calling in a helicopter when your team is getting pinned down.
It's just the fact that they release the same game every year that makes it shit. I mean, yeah it's not very special now, and even back then it was just another shooter, but it was the beginning of the end of the ww2 era of games. I remember thinking it was super cool looking at all these new guns on a HIGH DEFINITION tv. The television I had back then was heavier than my fridge.
2007/2008 was a good era for games. Halo 3, CoD4, Bioshock, Portal, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Crysis, Rockband (lol), Super Mario Galaxy, GTA IV, Mirrors Edge, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, etc. They were all really well made and complete games that other games have been taking notes from ever since. -
2019-03-05 at 7:43 PM UTCmight as well give it a blast anyway as its free

Had there even been that many once cod 4 came along?
And it was new, modern warfare hadn't been done as well imo at that point, the story was good cause they actually cared about it instead of just tacking it on to the multiplayer, the multiplayer was good because they wanted to make it more fun rather than balanced(though I never noticed any balancing problems) it had a ton of maps and with friends was always brilliant.
Had a lot of guns to play with and they were fun, more fun than WaW was or MW2 was imo(haven't played since then)
You ever use the cheats in campaign? Added a lot, try the rpg or m203 with infinite ammo.
Basically it was a game that was cared about before it became the massive cash cow it is now -

There was a lot of call of duty games before CoD4. 1, 2, 3, finest hour, big red one, road to victory, united offensive, and maybe some more I'm forgetting. -

I mean it had better/more SP content than I think any of the blackops and later games, but I'm not convinced it was actually very good. To be fair I can't say anything about the MP as I pirated all the CoD games and have played a grand total of like 2 hours online.Had a lot of guns to play with and they were fun, more fun than WaW was or MW2 was imo(haven't played since then)
I've heard people say this but it wasn't my experience. I liked WaW the most out of the post-MW games, but I'm a sucker for WWII shooters. And I thought MW2's guns were more fun. A lot of them were stupid and I can see them being horribly balanced for online play, but in SP having dual wields and just stupid cones of fire made run-n-gun more fun in MW2 I thought. -

You missed out on a lot then, there's a reason they decided single wasn't worth any effort and that's cause the multiplayer was so good, though they forgot that everyone liked the story in 4 as well as the multiplayer.

Don't get me wrong I liked both, though mw2 less so, but they just weren't it for me, WaW with zombies was good, only ever played the first map so I didn't even get the full experience.
Also I played mw2 multiplayer more than cod4 but that's more because it was a new game and everyone stopped playing 4, was on like second or third prestige by the time I stopped. -
2019-03-06 at 5:15 PM UTCIdk if any of you have played the new zombie modes but they're fucking ridiculous and inane. Last one i played was like, demons instead of zombies?? There were monsters coming out of portals and egg sacks i had to destroy. It was shit.
WaW zombies is so simple and perfect. -
2019-03-06 at 11:55 PM UTCYeah, I played one of the black ops zombies and it devolved into route running and powerup cycles (not that I'm opposed to route running in co-op shooters but it was shitty route running that involved you kiting crowds separately and your only real interaction was timing when you cross each others routes). I thought WaW's zombies was way better.

2019-03-07 at 1:15 AM UTCGotta admit, WaW zombies was pretty dope, but Black ops Zombies was the shit too, if not for only the map FIVE, because you get to be fucking CASTRO
fucking NIXON
fucking KENNEDY
FUCKING MCNAMARA!
Also, BLOPS2 had the bus mode, which was fun as fuck.
do you get to be zombies in any of the new ones? -
2019-03-07 at 1:20 AM UTCI skipped MW3, although it was okay the couple times I played it. Advanced Warfare killed it for me. Haven't bought one since. Infinite Warfare LOOKS kind of cool, literally. I like the Halo fantasy theme. I'm sure i'ts shit.

2019-03-07 at 1:39 AM UTCThat said I don't know how cod even really became a franchise, cod 1 and uo were garbo, instantly so much better when I got done with those 2 and started 2.
