actually, I wonder if Roman Catholics can shortcut it by slitting wrists, then giving a deathbed confession as they bleed out

Guns are not always, they were once made for people who didn't have them. Heaven is for people who forgot they're evil.

In the 1950s, psychologist Leon Festinger became intrigued with a news story about a doomsday cult whose leader claimed she’d received messages from a UFO about the impending flooding of the Earth. Festinger was struck by the question of what would happen when a deeply-held belief was disconfirmed by events. Posing as a believer, he began attending the group’s meetings, including what was to be the “final” meeting on the eve of the world’s end. When no flood came, the group’s founder miraculously received a new message: that it was because of the group’s virtuousness that the world had been saved. As he wrote in a book about the case, When Prophecy Fails, far from being unswayed, the group felt joyous that their belief system stayed intact and became even stronger in their convictions.

Lots of Christians have opted out of life - for instance the Gnostics rejected the world completely and just vanished, the Quakers never bred, and are pretty much gone.

Monasticism is pretty much the Catholic version of suicide - instead of killing yourself you go off to wait for death. Sending someone off to a monastery used to be a thing that kings and noblemen would do to their brothers, failed usurpers, the usurped, etc.

But most Christians nowadays don't really believe in their religion, at least not the same way the likes of Muslims do. Though the IQ gap maybe explains that as smart people can facilitate cognitive dissonance. That's when you can believe two mutually contradictory things at once.

That does work, but you have to chant double the hail Marys, so it's going to be a race against time.

Lol you havent considered the religious loopholes? Jump off a building and ask for forgiveness on the way down.

Or yes, cut wrists and ask for it while you're bleeding out.

Getting around the suicide thing seems easy. Say, IM SO SORRY FORGIVE ME as you dive into into the front of a moving train.

    The shit is all technicalities

    Your religion is gay. :D

IIRC suicide to get to heaven became a serious problem when the Catholic church was in power (gee I wonder why) so they made up some shit about it being a violation of the sixth commandment "because you're killing yourself and won't have time to repent" and it just became widely believed over the years

Yeah, it's crazy when you read the history behind certain books of the Bible and find out that some of them were parables, never intended to be taken as actual historical accounts
