Interesting. I haven't looked too deeply into it yet, nor do I really know much about the situation in Haiti so this is partially just a reminder for me to do a bit more research.

In short, the head of a US PMC was arrested along with several ex-US military, a few Serbs, a Russian and a local with rifles, maps, satellite phones and drones. They claim that they were 'covertly' invited or employed by the local government, but this has not been confirmed and they've been officially charged with conspiracy and possession of illegal weapons.

A significant amount of media has been released including passports and photos of much of the equipment they were detained with, so it may be possible to infer the nature of their mission from that.

On the face of it, they could have potentially been acting as guards or security, or as a means to escalate the conflicts in the same way as the Maidan Snipers (ie. a group that opens fire on protesters posing as police, a technique that's been used as far back as the Shah's reign in Iran).

Looking through the images I thought the make of drone might be useful, but there's only one partial shot of it and it just looks like a commercial Mavic Pro.

    Can anyone identify the guns?

Yeah, in that case I was more interested in optics - looks like one was for a sniper/marksman role while the others all have reflex sights and the one on the far right looks to have a big fat suppressor.

Is it normal to have a DMR in a protection/defensive team?

finny is really required to answer that question.

They sound very incompetent mercenaries...being caught by Haitians who we all know are barely able to count to 10.

The fact one had a suppressor kinda implied they were looking to use it, the hearing protection argument doesn't work when the rest all have comps.

Edit: that said they're all different setups, not just an issue rifle so it could be their preference alone including the dmr

Very normal, literally just to punch out a little further but overwatch is always useful.

Article says they were caught after leaving a bank, I'm of the opinion that they were removing something from there, probably compromising to someone, probably in case law and order breaks down with those riots, banks are some of the first to go after all.
We both know a certain family with ties to Haiti that'd have no problem having people killed to protect themselves, maybe that's what they were removing evidence of?

You never hear France catch shit over the fucked up shit they did to Haiti

They kept slaves there for 40 years after America had the emancipation proclamation and then charged them into the poor house for 150 years for their freedom

    Gangsta

France don't play the bleeding heart liberal game like America does. US is it's own worst enemy for drawing attention to it's own fuckups and failures. Some will say that's being honest and open...most would say it's being fucking stupid and self defeating.

I didn't see anywhere that they were leaving a bank; all I saw was that they were in an area with huge protests and hit a police checkpoint.

If that's the case it's possible they were hired as security to pull out gold or something valuable from a safe deposit box; given it's a US PMC they most likely would've been working on behalf of some oligarch stateside. There hasn't been any mention of valuables being seized, but it's always possible the police 'lost' it

The group was apprehended on Sunday in the Haitian capital city of Port-au-Prince, shortly after leaving the Bank of Haiti, local newspaper Le Nouvelliste reported.

    From that RT article

Doesn't necessarily have to be valuables like I said, could be files, a thumb drive? Though that said a proper briefcase for this sort of thing wouldn't be able to be broken in to easily so they wouldn't know they'd seized valuables or didn't declare it, could be diamonds, gold etc

Could also be that they escorted someone in to the bank and the person didn't leave with them.
