But this isn't new. why is it such a big thing to make a movie about it (the second one but a larger blockbuster flick). is it because of the #metoo movement? he deserved having his manhood cut off because she didn't want to leave him in a simple divorce? -

From what I remember the dude straight up beat and raped her. Repeatedly. Essentially, he was using his dick as a weapon and she disarmed him for her own safety.
