Here in Tejas, the cops know if you have or don't have it just from running the plates while they drive behind you. Don't they do that in all states?

Itβs law in Ohio to have insurance.
I had a cop pull me over last year, one day after my birthday, because he ran my plates when he was behind me at a stoplight, and saw that my actual ID license was one day expired. I was working days on end, and planned on getting it the next day, which I did. He let me off with a warning.
