"the rapid progression of AI" is largely a marketing line. There are a few low level problems that fall under the "AI" heading which are seeing some progress using older techniques largely for economic reasons like powerful SIMD processors being commonplace and mass produced. But when you look at the state of AGI it's about as slow moving as it ever was, there's more significant research coming from psychologists and neurologists than computer scientists or any kind of technologist. -

Maybe not related but I'v talked to a few client riders who told me how their companies (like 3 different people/3 different companies, one being Amazon) is opening these 7-11 like marts. people walk in, grab shit and walk out and are charged on their phones. but they don't have to stop and tap the phone. they just grab and walk out. they also have people making food in the back area. this reminded me of that film Dark City where the guy goes into some weird vending store and grabs food and he's charged for it. just this creepy drab colored background theme where everyone is like zoned out. -

They have one of those on post near market. I've never been in. People are usually outside gawking at it. I'm not really sure what the appeal is supposed to be. Shop keeps are cheap, humans still stock the shelves, installing some gay app seems like a lot more work than like just going to a store. -
2019-01-30 at 9:52 AM UTCIm streaming Tenacious D's newest song in Windows Media Player, but it has to do a 45 second buffer for every 3 seconds of play time.
Am I still going to sit there and watch it all the way through?
Probably. -

Most cashiers do hate doing that part of their Job. they prefer to be on the floor stocking and not dealing with one person after another. but rather if someone is looking for something you just help them find it. also it's a good chance to run to the back and take a 2-3 minute breather before your break.
when you're up front cashiering it becomes madning at times. panic attacks can happen. you feel boxed in. One or two people is nice and you're in a good mood then someone comes in next and is a total piece of shit asshole. this could eliminate that part of the job. but of course the AI robots will replace their stocking jobs. -
