I think maybe you misinterpreted, Lanny?
He can use a widely available assortment of software to "bottleneck" his connection to any speed he sets, including 56k dial-up. Of course. Granted, the "community" he wishes to build, would all have to hop on board with that and do it to their own machines each. I don't believe he intended to create some community that is "bubbled" from a network sense where it downgrades incoming and outgoing to 56k limitations, regardless of the connecting speed.
But that type of internet use was sooooo boring in comparison. Pics and videos were not available to be posted. The manageability and functionability were nothing like today. I dont understand the "appeal"

Nostalgia. To (re)experience the Internet when it was new. For many, it wasn't a horribly drab and awful time, but a pretty magical experience. For me at least.
The following users say it would be alright if the author of this
post didn't die in a fire!

True, but the YouTube Technologist posted was referencing tape drive storage mediums, used in servers back then as they are today.

I believe it. But that still had absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with the Internet and what this thread is about and your experience with it.

Even this software Lanny has been kind enough to run for us. Is a recreation of 90's style bulletin boards. I love it, for one. Truly, I do. All the shit I sometimes give him, I love it. This is how ALL of the Internet was back then. Basic HTML, low-quality pictures, a forum here or there. Good shit. Prior to that, BBS dial-up. Everything from hacking to drugs, to sex, and all the shit. The start of Totse's "text file" collection before it went WWW. NIRVANANET wasn't the only BBS, there were shit tons. If they weren't local to you, long distance was charged. Connection time fees could be astronomical.
Im google searching those years to remember wtf it was even like. I was in college in 95. Not sure and cant remember but i dont think computers were readily available. I did fail comp sci that year '95 that is
