   The reason we didn't make any progress on grand unification is because the LHC found absolutely no indication of supersymmetric particles. The new accelerators will try to do slightly higher energy physics but really we won't get to the next useful energy domain until we can build a solar system-sized particle accelerator and do Planck scale physics.

   Although don't despair: the IceCube project at the South Pole is a ray of light into higher energy physics: the universe is always creating high energy particle collisions in supernovae and stuff. So we could potentially see new physics there... And we did!
