    questionable source.

To learn more about gold and how it is removed from discarded devices, I spoke to Sean Magann, vice president of sales and marketing for Sims Recycling Solutions—North America, a division of the global re-use and recycling firm Sims Metal Management.
How much gold is in a smartphone?

anyway assuming that what he said is true, and assuming that he meant the PCB of these smartphones [since 95% of smartphones are just plastics and glasses and aluminum] which weight only like 20-30grams,

youd need around 50 phones to get a kg of smartphone PCBs which still contain lots of iron shieldings. so a tone would be like 50,000 smartphones.

In any case, not bad for something you're getting for 100% free.

Go to apartment complexes and throw them in the dumpsters

Make sure they're the ones that are clearly marked "NO PERSONAL ELECTRONICS"

well if you take his numbers, its 10 thousand smartphones per tonne. this means a smartphone is like 100gram. like i said, a smartphone is like 95% plastics and aluminums and glasses and what not.

so the pcb weights just a fraction of that.

The calculation is already taking into account the non-valuable materials contained in the phones.

The average smartphone weighs about 120 grams. An IPhone from 2016 weighs 138 grams. The heaviest phones out there are no more than 195 grams.
