   Sure is, but you'll probably want to use a gas heavier than air. If you don't want to kill them, you could try vaporizing a large amount of salvinorin A, since it's extremely potent, thermally stable and yet strangely not very toxic at all....

   As for the thread, obviously it's possible to some extent (WWI) but you need a lot of gas.

   Gas attacks are usually not all that effective unless we're talking military weapons, and even then, not too effective. Not to mention, they have real terrorism suspects in the US and neighboring countries to worry about. For every thread like this, someone looks into it, but they wouldn't be "all over" it.

   Theoretically, you would need to dig a gully along a well-traveled path and then fill the gully with a heavier-than-air odorless knockout gas. The mark walks along, goes into the gully to reach the other side, and succumbs. Robbery or sexual acts could then take place.
