I need to practice my social skills. Every day I'll be going out of my comfort zone and talking to people. One of my friends is an extrovert who everyone loves, and he has somewhat taken me under his wing. My goal is to be as sociable and liked as him in one year. Since I'm making a conscious effort every day, I could probably do it in less, but I found this image and wanted to use it:

    Anywhoooo...

Today I had a conversation with a LAY-DEE and she brought up germany. And instead of making a holocaust joke like I normally would, I asked her questions instead! We actually had a really good conversation, and I let her do all the talking. Still, I didn't sound that enganged. I was just like "yeah, oh cool, etc" with that quiet voice of mine.

At work, I kept asking customers how their day was going. I ended up having more conversations than I usually do with them. I just got 'em to talk about themselves.

    AND NOW FOR THE BIGGUN.

I never fuckin' talk to my female coworkers who work in the other side of the building. I go over there sometimes to hand in forms and shit. Well this time I went over and told myself, "alright, you're gonna ask them how their day is going" and... I did! I had a conversation with a cute girl, but I was really fucking awkward with it. I was pretty boring, and didn't ask her much as far as I remember. She engaged more than I did, but still -- she engaged way more than she usually does, and I think that's because I was actually talking to her. Lel.

well thats good you're putting yourself out there, blunderstar. How old are you by the way? And is there any specific reason why you get anxiety talking to people?

I'm 25, and prolly because I spent all my teen years and early 20s sitting inside on the computer, so I was never exposed to people.

^damn dude, I'm not even going to lie, but that is kind of old to be that anxious around people. I mean you had to of gone to school growing up and stuff , so I'm sure you got social interactioin there... you said you would party a lot, didn't you meet people through doing drugs and stuff?

I would consider myself fairly introverted, myself. So I guess i kinda understand.

At least you did a good job not making a german joke, because its hard to get away with stuff like that if you're already anxious / socially awkward. Especially considering you just met her...

Maybe you could go out to bars and talk to people there.

I'm probably not as bad as you think I am, but I'm still very autistic. The reason I'm doing this is because I know I have a lot of potential to be just as sociable as my friend.

Though to be honest, its kind of a bad idea to want to emulate what someone else has that is inherently a part their personality, you can't please everyone, and you shouldn't if it doesn't come naturally (from what you've mentioned about yourself in other post it doesnt). I'd say just be yourself and be less afraid to talk, which you are doing... Maybe your friend has everyone liking him. But thats not a reality for most people. I mean take a look at politicians that try to pander to the majority of people yet half the people hate the guy/girl.

You put to much emphasis on wanting to "be liked like him" Just be liked for who you are.

my hang up growing up was about not having people like me, I realized I don't need everyone to like me, I'm fine with just a few people. And if I didn't even have that, well at least I have my cat.

When you talk to people IRL, just be forward and direct with what you say without having to be rude unless the time calls for it if you know what I mean. They may think you're an autist / idiot, but you will come across as a genuine person which most good people can respect.

But then again, its easy for me to say now, because personally I like having less friends / acquaintances than I used too when I was younger.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not,

just letting the guy know that he's over thinking everything. When I was younger I used to not talk and act all shy like some kind of shit ass, because I was anxious about it. Now a days, If I'm not talking its not because I'm afraid its just honestly because I don't want to talk to anyone. At that stupid last job I did for week, I went in as an outsider, they all new each other prior and new the chef that hired me, but I didn't let that bother me, I went into it right away making conversation and introducing myself. Not overboard like "CHARMED TO MEEETCHA I"M TEH Bill KrozbyLER!!!" with a big fake grin on my face, but rather just being normal and trying to see what they were about.

I quickly realized i just like those people because they were try hards / boring, and a couple of the dudes there were wannabe edge lords, and would throw some "witty" insult my way to get me to react and intimidate me... One time I just you guys are idiots and walked off to do my job. One of the dudes was like "hey I'm not mad at you.. just bla bla bla bla bla" its like I dont care if the guys mad me, he can be mad all he wants.

Then my boss the chef yelled at me telling me I was going to pay for the scratched wall when moving a 400lb fryer. (I wasn't hired to be a mover, and it was actually illegal on there part to get me to do that) Everyone was watching him yell at me... It's not like I haven't ever been bitched out before. I told right away in front of everyone, "I'm not paying for anything"
then the dumbass scratched the floor and the wall himself and yelled "ffuuuuuck!" and was like "ddduuuuurrrp!!!"

I called my boss after a week and told him I'm not coming in anymore, and he was like "hey whats wrong bud??? why?? everyone liked you and we want you here If you're going to quit, dont you want to at least give a 2 weeks notice? we need you here!"

I told him I rather just spend my time finding something else.

The last place I worked may have just been a shitty pizza place, but I liked the people I worked with, they were more genuine, and upfront, and interesting. These people at the hotel were sooooo boring. And I know I'm not mister perfect but I just didn't care one way or the other if they liked me.

I'm never going to have a job again, where you have to shave your beard.. wear a polyester uniform.. emphasis on customer service... ect..

I worked at this one pizza place 'ghattis pizza' for like a month in november and I had a meeting with the franchise owner, just him and I , it was kinda awkward.. but anyways, he showed me a video of how he wants me to act at work... he even told me I should open the pizza box infront of the people at there door to show them how mmmmmm good it was"

thats kind of weird I wouldnt want a weird delivery guy opening up my pizza...

Its like I have to already wear an orange collared shirt and then act like an even bigger faggot? I'm not doing that.

Sorry I kind of went on a rant , but basically you should be polite, but be yourself and not be worried about anyone giving you shit.

I feel like I'm a pretty friendly guy most the time, but I don't like people trying to think they can get a leg up on me or try to impress me by being a gobbler

I wish I could make social progress away from career criminal degeneracy but we've all got problems faggot.

If you want to have people like you, realize what you can offer them and what they can offer you. Be motivated to achieve this and do it through the art of bullshitting about small talk but always allude to greater things. Leave questions unanswered but try to relate to people. When people are like "oh Enter is just like me on this subject, what about others?" Just make coy remarks and never really tell them shit unless it's a) not the truth and b) what they want to hear. Conceal your intentions and don't think of things in terms of "social whatever" just think of it in terms of life on this planet interacting with each other.
