Was playing KF2 and wanted to give the latest build of 7days a try (they changed out much of the network stack they were using) but I need to replace my watercooling pump and neither of those will run satisfactorily on my laptop until then -

oh man I've still never launched a fucking rocket -
2019-01-20 at 9:25 AM UTCWhat 7days server do you play? I had mixed feelings about the recent changes. It's always been kinda tough for SP but removing corpse looting/harvesting made it much tougher, at least early game IMO.

2019-01-20 at 9:29 AM UTCoh wow, 7days still gets updates? might have to torrent the latest version, I had fun with that like two years ago.

2019-01-20 at 9:49 AM UTCit's been over a year since the last update, devs are absolute mongolroys but I really like the core gameplay.

I typically don't play on servers, just P2P with friends, but their absolutely shit netcode (NB: blaming 'netcode' has become a meme for retards, but this game sent huge amounts of data per zombie - literal gigabytes on horde nights where zombies show up in the 50s-100s) made even that impossible. That's one of the main reasons I stopped playing after the last update, but they've explicitly changed the part of the net stack that I traced it to (UNITY UNET) so I'm giving it another try when my desktop's working again.
I started it up on my lunix laptop to see how well it'd run but decided to wait:I woke up in a forest in the snow, started punching grass to make grass pant, come across a town while punching. Several lumberjack zombies are lumbering in my direction from the forest, so I figure I'll go scavenge some clothes at least. I check a few cars, round the corner of a ruined building and two dogs are standing there growling. Fuck. I run, the dogs chase me and vultures start circling overhead. I spot a ruined building with rubble piled up to the second floor, so I run up it hoping the dogs can't follow and hide around a corner for a moment until they fuck off. I hear them get bored, so I sneak down the rubble pile and head away from the town, back into the snow. I tear up enough grass and weeds to make pants, shoes and a shirt so I won't freeze to death immediately and come upon another small town. By this time I've scrounged up enough wood, grass and rocks for a bow and a few arrows, so I'm a little more confident at fending off zombies. Walking down the main street I'm approached by another lumberjack, so I put 4 arrows in his head and it barely slows him down. I keep punching in the arrows until he goes down, then notice a few of his friends coming so I pull the intact ones out and run into the nearest house, tripping over a fat behemoth of a woman. Shit. She gets up groaning, so I panic-fire a bunch of arrows into her gut. No effect, except now she leaks when she waddles. I run to the other side of the room, aim and put one in her face - luckily it stuns her for a second, so I charge her down and stab her repeatedly in the eyes until she goes down. Unfortunately a sharpened bone isn't a great weapon, even less so than an arrow with a rock on the end of it, so I end up having to patch myself with the one bandage I woke up with and thank fuck I didn't get infected. I'm now wary that there are other asshole zombies inhabiting the house, so I sneak around the rooms carefully - in the living room, the doorway between the living room and kitchen is blocked off with a bunch of desks and a fridge. I'd be able to smash through it, but there are two zombies 'sleeping' against the wall on the far side of the room - fuck that noise, I have like 2 arrows left. I sneak in the doorway to the right instead and find myself in a bedroom - I'm hearing a steady banging on the wall though, as if something's banging on it - I walk a little closer to try to work out what it is and the fucking floor gives way - fuckin' bang, legs broken and I'm now in the basement with a literal pile of zombies around me waking up. I sprint as fast as someone with broken legs can into the next room where there's a huge furnace still burning, and yet more zombies coming to un-life. Just before I'm surrounded I notice an alcove with stairs up and make a break for it, barely avoiding getting the bad touch on the way. I'm now in the kitchen, and try the door to get outside - nope, locked and boarded up. I turn around to look for another exit and suddenly realise I'd looked in this room before and that there were two zombies here - they were now blocking my way. I literally bitchslap one of them and it staggers back in shock, giving me an opening to make a mad dash for the window, quickly trying to bash it out with my stone axe. I succeed, but as I step out the window to freedom one of the zombies closes the gap and punches me in the back of the head, leaving me stunned in the snow outside with white vision, less than 10% health and at least one broken leg.
It was at this point I decided I wasn't going to play this until my desktop got fixed. If it's going to stress me out I at least want it to have a decent framerate and a resolution higher than 1280x1024. -
2019-01-20 at 11:09 AM UTClol, I had a not-too-different experience. I set up a small base in the snow and was established enough that I had basic gear but needed food so I started working my way into the nearby town in search of supplies. I got into a garage and as I was walking towards the house the fucking floor under me broke and I fell into a basement with three zombies in it without the gear to deal with three zombies in close quarters so I ran for the stairs and ended up in a living room with three more zombies in it, so I hit the next set of stairs and started desperately looking for a window to leap out of, room to room, zombies in each, no windows to be found. I tried bobbing and weaving between bitches back to the first floor but got caught by one on the stairs and then gangbanged to death along with my best gear and food. I felt fucked by a fucking trap door floor but I have to admit it produced a pretty good failed-escape narrative and got my heart beating like a motherfucker

2019-01-21 at 10:24 PM UTCI joined the railroad. It's the hardest faction to play because it gives the least support and puts you in a lot of fights with the institute, not that anything in FO4 is particularly difficult. The game makes it pretty obvious that synths are sentient though, not really sure how you could justify anything other than the railroad aside from cool factor.
