This is a fight that has been going on for MILLENIA. I have no dogs in this particular fight, so for now, I just stay out of it. -

The principle might be a noble one (i.e. the defense of free speech), but what I've learned over the years is that some battles just aren't worth fighting. It's not like this has become some kind of slippery slope where Lanny has started banning people for literally no reason.
When it comes to that, I'll be right by your side. But for now, I understand Lanny's judgment.

Nonsense. Lanny has been completely arbitrary from day one. Lots of users have semi-post-flooded continually and have never been banned. First he says "not in the serious discussion forums", now it's "not in the Spurious forum either". He flips and flops so much it's comical. But it's really got nothing to do with that anyways. It's really all about Lanny, you see. It always has been. It's not about the best welfare of the BBS at all, it's all about Lanny's fragile ego. -

Honestly, I'm just gonna withhold any kind of strong position on the matter for now.
Maybe I haven't been around enough to see all the alleged tyranny.
But I will give him at least some benefit of the doubt, because he is providing this website for us. That, in and of itself, may not be sufficient to warrant automatic respect, but, those members that I've seen him ban so far have been guilty of breaking what few rules even exist around here.
I may be wrong... There may be examples of Lanny abusing his power that I don't know of... But for now, I'm just avoiding taking any kind of strong position either way, because I just haven't seen (yet, at least) what you're seeing. -

Okay, I want to leverage a hypothetical here...
Imagine that you dedicate a certain percentage of your income to keeping a website up, and then add to that the time it takes to manage it, especially when there are all kinds of illegal activities discussed on said site...
And then you have someone who just, non-stop, goes around posting about how much of a faggot you are, and about raping you, or raping your mom, or whatever...
I'm not saying that banning someone simply because they say things that bother you is necessarily the answer, but I would straight up accuse anyone of being disingenuous if they claimed they wouldn't at least think about banning them. -

The only reason Infinityshock has been acting out excessively is because Lanny has been giving him unwanted attention, in that Lanny can't hold his own on a BBS without resorting to abuse of authority and hiding behind his admin control panel; that's attractive to Infinityshock, like a shark smelling blood in the water. Infinityshock can smell insecurity and fear from a mile away. So, you see, this isn't Infinityshock's fault, it's Lanny's fault. And, so he pays for the webspace. Big deal. That's what he voluntarily agreed to do. Nobody put a gun to his head. But just because he owns the webspace doesn't mean he gets to shit on good users and clean the place out systematically, like he's been doing.

You ARE wrong. For example, he banned kr0z for posting "too many threads" in SG. Another example, he banned benny for "spamming", only problem there is benny doesn't spam. It was just Lanny and his chronic aversion to valid criticism. I could give several other solid examples. The problem isn't the users, the problem is Lanny. -
