Tulpa is a concept that can be traced to the Tibetan roots of Buddhism. In those times a spiritual person, probably of a monastic order, would will a sentient being into his consciousness. The process would be an arduous and lengthy work in meditation on relaxation, visualization and for the imposition phase concentration. In time with great work and effort there would emerge the tulpa in the form of a companion of spirit. In late stages of the practice the practicioner would impose the tulpa into his sensual reality with controlled hallucinations, including sight, smell, sound and touch.
This practice is still active in the far reaches of the world where spiritual tradition prevails. In the western world tulpas are created by anime obsessed my little pony fans who create tulpas of their favorite anime character and impose them into their reality. If this is the best use of this concept I cannot say.

goddamn it, I made this sig line and looked at it for 10 seconds, and it looked terrible, so I deleted it. I spent the rest of the evening occasionally posting here and there, and the sig line was gone. Everything normal.
I log in this morning, and the sig line is back again in all it's awkward, indistinguishable from the rest of the post glory. What the fuck is going on here?

Damn, I didn't think anybody here was aware of tulpa work. I'd really like to see more research into the matter as I think it bears legitimacy and warrants scientific inquiry, but there's an unfortunate lacking of viable subjects as well as credibility within the discipline. I mean, when somebody tells you they bear host to a home-grown alternate conscious being exclusive to their awareness, it raises dozens of ontological questions and authenticity is immediately and understandably brought into question. The skeptic clearly has the most easily supported view in this matter and yet we have so many of us with undeniable success developing a relationship with tulpas. Meditation is a discipline which I believe will yield countless, previously unconsidered fruits to all who practice but I'm not sure I believe faithfully that science can apprehend the benefits in a way that demonstrates reliably what a pursuant stands to gain.

You mean mindfulness? practicing mindfulness aka a few times during the day if you find yourself slightly dissociated focus on your surroundings, sounds, smells, and think to yourself "this room is bright, i can hear someone talking on the phone, computer sounds", "the room is cold" etc. and eventually you'll be pretty good

Arthur brings up a great point. I read this interesting thing about how young human children learn to recognize that there are different levels of understanding and knowledge. The idea that someone else knows something you dont know or vice versa is a huge leap in cognitive development.
