and most of that money didnt get turned into actual planes and bombs, they just line the pockets of defense industry executives. world wide. -

Well all welfare and entitlement programs do is primarily support the lazy...sure sure there are some legit cases and those COULD be catered for. BUT most people sucking up the tax dollars are doing so because of their own lack of "get up and go"..lets call it.
If you take away the comfy chair people will learn to stand on their own 2 feet etc.
Personal responsibility...it's a thing. I came here to the US 22yrs ago with nowt...I've never taken a dime from the US, I've only contributed. If I can do it as a bloody foreigner the damn natives surely can. -

Defense spending is kind of like Keynesian spending, as it stimulates the economy, makes people feel more secure, and most of the money stays in the country too. It's like a public works program, except it doesn't produce anything particularly useful.
And don't forget that all costs ultimately walk on two feet. -
