We are a specific mart of the universe

You are you because "your" waves happen to be in a specific part of the universe.

You are here, because you are not somewhere else, part of something else.

However, why do we continue to be ourselves? If all of our neurons become different parts of the universe via different atoms replacing different atoms via cell desth and replacement through materials being brought into the body, whilst the previous parts of you are being excreted to another part of the universe, why do "we" continue to be us, instead of the different atoms being "us"?

There is no "you" and there never was. "You" are the interaction of a variety of systems and process that are constantly changing with no center, you know what they say... plus ça change.

Yes, I quotated "you" to express that while we may think of ourselves as ourselves, we most certainly are not.

A better way to phrase my question is, why does consciousness appear to flow in sequence instead of being handed off to something else with every passing moment.

Or perhaps it is doing that, now that I think more deeply about it.

Almost done listening to the Way of the Zen.

The fact that the concepts brought forth seem self-evident to me is a good sign. It's almost getting a bit redundant, as I've already adopted the philosophical shift by my own discovering.
