    Aristotle didn't share our framework of physics and didn't share our conclusions about physical systems. That doesn't mean Aristotelian physics is just as valid modern standard model physics.

    That's because the world is the way it is, and so as time goes on and we study the world more our scientific theories will model it ever more accurately. But our feelings about what is right and wrong are not modelling anything. Different moral systems are not really comparable. Predator and prey, for example, will always have different interests and will therefore always have different ideas about what is good and what is bad and will therefore always view their own perspective as the better perspective. Whatever moral differences exist between two different people is something that doesn't even matter because the system will do whatever is best for it regardless of their preferences.

    If you have a pizza route with a certain number of clients and you "want" to deliver pizzas as efficiently as possible to make the most money, the pizza boy's opinion of the fastest route is completely irrelevant to the factual fastest route.

    That is irrespective of whether the enterprise of pizza delivery should necessarily involvemaking the most efficient deliveries or most money as a universal moral imperative.

    Aristotle wrote on a lot more than philosophy, he was a prolific "biologist" before that was a word and his physics were really a physics, explaining the motion of bodies, didn't have much to do with his philosophy.

    I guess I meant Newtonian kinematics, but that's supposed to fall out of the standard model discounting relativistic stufffff which like you don't even observe if you're an early modern or earlier physicist.

    IDK, physics isn't really my thing but I feel like my analogy should still work here. Aristotle operated in a different framework than modern physicists do, or even like people today with a highschool education. He came to different conclusions about how material bodies interact. But we don't just throw our hands up and say "well it must just be a matter of opinion!". Likewise, people have different ideas about moral action, operate in different moral frameworks, this does nothing to prove that there are no moral facts as Obbe claims.

    Again, the Standard Model is a particle physics thing, it doesn't even deal with gravity.

    Newton's work is amazingly advanced btw, people don't realise, but his work is mostly mathematics, and the maths won't change, and the whole relativistic correction thing is only to do with energy/mass/time.

    Wikipedia does say gravitation is not part of standard model particle physics, I guess I assumed standard model meant like Newton modified for Einstein plus modern particle physics sans quantum mechanics stuff? Huh, you learn something every day. IDK, like I said, physics isn't really my thing, but again, I don't think this really poses a serious issue for the point I was making.

    If that were true our ideas about morality would be modelling the reality of morality more accurately as time goes on, like our scientific theories do with the world. But they don't accurately model anything because "right and wrong" don't exist anywhere outside of our imaginations.
