Life Expectancy Years Drop: first drop since WWII

2018-11-29 at 9:16 PM UTCWhy the prominent decline in human life years?
1) drugs [use/overdose]
2) suicide [stress]
While both male and female life years decline women still to outlive men by an average of about 10 years?
(So, if I were to be seeking a male companion in life I should search for a man that is at least 10 years my senior to be my expected same age in life years or a man 20 years my junior to have time to teach him what he needs to know to be my equal by the time I bury him?) -

Hate is a very strong word to be used when speaking of humans but even stronger and stupider to feel that about an inanimate object.
Being angry does not come close to equating to hating.
Per se, its not that I dislike drugs/medication/pharmaceuticals.
Its that I see/and have seen their destructive effects on humankind -- legal and illegal -- when abused to the point of addiction and even death.
How the Psyche can allow the process to damage its own functioning core is beyond my understanding.
My love of humanity weeps at the weakness of the human Psyche that allows its own destruction at its own hands. -

2018-11-30 at 12:19 AM UTCSo you have no problem with the substances themselves but you are concerned about the problems associated with them? then you should understand making any drug illegal does nothing to help public health and costs the system far more than treating addiction and deregulation.

2018-11-30 at 2:15 AM UTCSweetie, I lived in Venezuela. I am familiar with no laws controlling drugs.
But to legalize the making, possession, use of something like meth is a sickness of societal thinking?
Legalization of marijuana is not a smashed oxy in a cooking pot so it doesn't even qualify as an argument in drug legalization.
Just because a drug is legal doesn't mean I have to like the concept and it sure as hell doesn't mean I will use it. -
2018-11-30 at 5:15 AM UTCMaking meth illegal won't keep it from the hands of people that want to use it. Maybe if you gave the death penalty for anyone that uses the drug but I don't think that would work either.
Just make it legal and use the money you save from the pointless drug war to fund addiction treatment and research. -
2018-12-01 at 2:47 AM UTCMeth use is a death sentence.
Make 'manufacturing of' a death sentence. -

2018-12-01 at 12:04 PM UTCThe suicide rate would have to be waaaaay higher than it is to put a significant dent in the national life expectancy.
I don't think there's any particularly good evidence to support the drug hypothesis.
You know what's a very strong correlate with longevity? Affluence. You know who's been getting poorer, and at a growing rate? The median US citizen.
Daily reminder that capitalism is killing you. -

im pretty sure life expectancy for coloreds and minorities of all types is up and white people are down. there's more to life than money, the glue that holds society together is breaking apart. -

Of course there's more to life in money but I have no idea what that has to do with the life expectancy of "white people" vs. "coloreds and minorities". National life expectancy is down (albeit slightly, for a short time so far). I've offered declining median wealth of Americans as a cause. What about this explanation is challenged by an unsourced claim about the ethnic distribution of Americans who are dying sooner? -

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2018/02/07/drugs-alcohol-and-suicides-contribute-alarming-drop-u-s-life-expectancy/316271002/The drop in life expectancy is due to more than the opioid crisis, cited as a main cause in the CDC report last year, Woolf said.
(from the USA today article)
"It’s a larger issue, involving addiction to opioids but also fatal overdoses from other drugs," he said. More importantly, he said it’s accompanied by a dramatic surge in deaths from alcohol abuse and an increase in the suicide rate.
By far, the report found it's a rural issue more than an urban one. "The problem is concentrated in rural, largely white counties that have often struggled for many years with stagnant wages, unemployment, poverty and the loss of major industries that fueled local economies," Woolf said.
this was just a quick google search, if I was really on my game I would dig more into primary sources but im not sure this conversation warrants that level of effort yet. life expectancy is being dragged down mostly because of white, middle class(and middle aged) people in rural areas while iirc blacks and latinos have actually seen an increase in life expectancy. affirmative action and various diversity programs make sure that whites get the short end of the stick, in order to pay for all sorts of sins, real or imagined.
actually the new york times article is even better...see I barely even bothered to read these fucking things because it's such a waste of fucking time going over such basic shit, but to make sure you can't confuse a god damn thing, here it is from the FUCKING jedi YAWHK TIMESLife expectancy for whites had been rising for decades, but it has stagnated in recent years. It inched up in 2010 and 2011, and was flat in 2012 and 2013.
Recent research has documented surprising increases in death rates among less educated whites. Last year, a paper by Anne Case and Angus Deaton documented rising death rates among middle-age white Americans, particularly those with no more than a high school education. Other research has found rising rates among younger whites.
The pattern had puzzled demographers, but the recent analyses have pointed to suffering and anxiety among working-class whites.
In contrast, life expectancy for blacks rose to 75.6 in 2014 from 75.5 in the previous year. Blacks have gained more than a year of life expectancy since 2008. Black men had the biggest increase of all the groups in 2014, rising to 72.2 from 71.8.
For Hispanics, life expectancy jumped to 81.8 in 2014 from 81.6 in 2013. Hispanic women had even more pronounced gains, with life expectancy rising to 84 years from 83.8 in 2013. Overall, Hispanics, like blacks, have gained one year of life expectancy since 2008.
The overall life expectancy for Americans, 78.8, remained unchanged.
Do you understand what was written there? Overall life expectancy is unchanged, blacks and latinos have more life expectancy, whites have less. can't cry breitbart or stormfront either. -

Saying 'this is just a quick google searchif I was on my game I'd find sources stating x, y and z' does not equate to x,y and z being arguments because you didn't find them. Therefore they do not exist as sources available to this argument.

you're barely comprehensible, I don't know why I'm replying to you, I put in the least amount of effort and gave everything Lanny wanted as far as an argument goes, and gave it straight from the most "reputable" news source possible. suck a dick. you'd think lanny might be somewhat aware of some of these larger issues, but apparently he has no idea what is happening. -
2018-12-02 at 10:49 AM UTCIt sounds to me like Lanny got schooled on the argument and some white knights came in to protect him, but they, too, were also shot down.
