You won't always have internet everywhere you go. You should be backing up on both cloud and HD.
All you need is a very small HD. 120GB is like 20 dollars and should do most people's pictures and documents fine. I really don't see the point in keeping a large HD unless you're downloading large amounts of movies/porn or need it to install games and shit. But personally I just keep that on my internal HD. Really no need to transport or back up that shit. If I need a movie or two I can move it to something else instead of taking ALL OF MY SHIT around with me and potentially losing it. -

The cloud won't help you when your internet is down young fella me lad...relaying on 3rd parties to store your valuable data is like putting you willy in the hands of a madman with a pair of scissors. -

I still backup Xvid movies to DVD...have about 2000 DVDs over the last 20yrs or so. I know in my head I could fit all those on 1 cheap HD now but it would probably take me 54 years to copy them all to it...so I just keep burnin DVDs...that and its convenient to play the disks on my DVD player than reads divx disks.
