How do you aim a laser to hit something the size of a washing machine 1000 miles away? How do you even see it? Try doing the trigonometry on that, and then account for the ease with which you can spray paint your warhead to be reflective, have an ablative coating, have a stealth coating, have a cooling system, etc.
I plan to have my own next gen missile defense directed energy protype up and running shortly, I'm going to jam a laser pointer up my ass and run around going "wowwwowowwowowwo". It'll have as much chance of stopping a nuke as any of these systems. -

I hope I'll get to see this on worlstah

Nuclear subs are objectively better than silos but walking silos would also be better than regular ones. -

Half of the point of Metal Gear is that the Metal Gear project uses a railgun as a nuclear delivery mechanism rather than a rocket, and thus invalidates all traditional nuclear launch tracking and detection methods, which threatens a breakdown of Mutually Assured Destruction. It is a core thrust of the Metal Gear mech tech. -

$$$$$$$ on R&D.How do you even see it? Try doing the trigonometry on that, and then account for the ease with which you can spray paint your warhead to be reflective, have an ablative coating, have a stealth coating, have a cooling system, etc.
Nobody beats America on the R&D $$$$ war mate.
There will always be plausible countermeasures to everything. But ultimately you have to fit your shit onto a rocket and mass produce and maintain it. Nothing will ever be a perfect and unblockable weapon. There will be counters and counters to counters. The winner of the arms race will be whoever has the most $$$ and we have the most $$$, it is that simple.
Also just FYI the warhead is only the explodey bit of the missile. -

one thing you have to understand about defense technology is that once they;re being publicized they are already obsolete.
a trump card weapon thats new and effective will forever remain top secret until they become obsolete, which they will then publicize it.
rampantly. -

Oh right, I thought you were talking about current tech. If anything though I'd expect that to be easier to intercept as long as you have forewarning of a launch - it'd be like artillery (China actually claims to be working on EM/railgun artillery at the moment), unable to avoid countermeasures and it's speed limited by gravity (given that it travels in an arc). I guess you could armor it and pack in more 'smart' electronics though since weight won't be such an issue - counter-counter-measures and the like.

The US is beating itself at R&D - greedy contractors are gutting the budget and delivering unfinished or sub-par products to ensure they'll be able to profit off of updates and maintenance. Zumwalt, F-35, endless Tomahawk/Shadow iterations... Russia is at least 2 generations ahead in terms of missile and electronic warfare tech and have strategically neutralised the entire concept of a surface fleet for anything more than threatening poor brown people.
I have no idea about the state of China's tech because most of their visible hardware is based on US/Russian designs and they have a habit of making absurd claims outside of that

I don't think long range will ever be feasible, but as a CIWS, ie. inside of 20km or so, they've shown a lot of promise. True I have no idea if they'll ever be capable defeating ICBMs or hypersonic missiles, but I wouldn't write the concept off so quickly. -

Putin explicitly publicised the new hypersonic weapons (Kinzahl, Avengard, SARMAT-II etc) to scare the maniac neocons in the US away from the idea of a first strike or a 'winnable nuclear exchange'.
It really depends on the weapon. Some work better as a deterrent, others simply can't be developed or tested secretly. -

Wouldn't the projectile still be moving horizontally at like Mach 6 or whatever? I feel like it would completely impossible to intercept such a shot. -

and they have one of them
that's 40% complete
and which will probably not actually work

its a double/multi edged sword, many possibilities.
it could be done as a deterence,
it could also be done for internal consumption, rousing political support from the masses.
or it could be a merely paid advertisement to scare the shit out of americans to the point they will no longer object to further increase in military spending for more bombs and 'stealth' planes, entirely paid for by american armaments industries.
have you ever asked yourself why are there so many 'russia/china can beat the shit out of america' videos on youtube ? -
2018-12-01 at 3:51 AM UTCprobably the same reason there are so many reality TV shows
low quality media for low quality consumers -

depends on the angle I guess? a lower angle would retain more speed but would limit where on the earth you could hit. I really have no idea; the math required for (accurate) intercontinental artillery would be insane -

Like I keep trying to tell everyone, they control a mass population by creating monsters to scare y'all with. Then they offer you 'protection' from the monsters that they've created in your mind. At a price of course.
I'm literally stunned constantly by how so many people continue to fall for this shit in this day and age.
How can y'all not see wtf they're doing?

2018-12-01 at 6:31 AM UTCwe all see the same thing, the only difference is how we narrate them to ourselves, how we tailor these narratives to suit our comfort and norm.

they have a lot more than that, and mass deployment starts early next year
