Im not being defensive about Russian language. I just know a lot of people from all over the Russian world, and I have heard on the internet a lot that the Russian/ Ukrainian/ Belorussian languages are very similar. But, when I have 3 Ukrainians speaking their language next to me, I only understand the very basic, simple words. Things like I, you, this, there, etc. When they're talking about other stuff I cannot understand them at all. There is a lot of similarity in some words but not at all in others. I think it has to do with which words were introduced into the language at what time, and for what reason. Keep in mind that spoken language is a living thing. In the book you will read "I have a car", on the street you might hear "I have a ride (or some other slang term for car)", and maybe the proper word "car" might be the same (borrowed from a western language?), but the slang terms might be completely different.

    You're a jedi?! Ugh...

Also, German is completely useless outside of Germany, Austra and Switzerland. It has zero crossover with anything. Maybe Dutch a little bit but that's a stretch. The only reason to learn it is to read German literature the way it's meant to be. Don't visit Germany, either. I'd never waste a trip to this shithole. There is literally nothing to do here that you can't do anywhere else for cheaper.

Shit I even know Africans and Afghans who speak perfect Russian, since the Russian world extended well beyond the traditional borders of the Soviet Union in various ways.

German shares relations with Swedish, Danish, and actually shares more in common with Norweigan than English.

You guys are not understanding that I'm not trying to speak languages by learning other languages, I am trying to build foundation to learn multiple languages. I'm really into the linguistic minutia between languages. Seeing how languages have evolved, split, and built off one another. It's interesting shit. Here's an example of how what I know now would help me learn.

I just translated 'Hello my name is §m£ÂgØL and I love watching lions on television' into Norwegian. Hei mitt navn er §m£ÂgØL, og jeg elsker å se på løver på tv

    hei- Hi/hey/etc. Easy one.

mitt- Means 'my.' Spanish has 'mi' for this, which is not too big of a difference. Pronounced the same, just add a t.

navn- Means name. Similar to name. Same vowel pronunciation.

er- Means 'is' and is like a weird conjugated 'estar' in Spanish, which is 'to be' but conceptually very similar.

se- Means 'see' and is only one letter off. Rhymes with 'ver' in spanish.

tv- Obviously means tv but it is pronounced 'teva'. I don't think I need to explain how English helps me know what this is. I know English contributes the most borrowed words but there are many borrowed words between languages. Usually the most common words are what's borrowed or similar, like you can see here.

Not bad. I was actually able to figure out most of the Norwegian even without you telling what it meant before you posted it.

I guess you should learn Latin and Greek if you are into ethymology.

I've considered going into linguistics but I have no idea how that's a profitable career without also being a polyglot. Probably impossible to find a job in linguistic studies.

Latin and Greek are definitely on the list, but Latin is dead and I have little interest in going to Greece. I actually know a decent amount of of Middle English from my work and I've followed the lineage for words all the way back to shit like Pictish. It's really annoying though. I always end up on google pdfs of big old textbooks. There aren't a lot of websites geared towards going so far back.

It was alright until the country started cucking itself. They stopped giving out concealed carry permits as easily, and you were starting to be made to jump through hoops to take an army issued rifle with you on leave. This coincided with the rise of (partial) acceptance of homosexuals and a rise of liberalism.

Oh and it was kinda shitty in the 90s and early 00s due to Rusophobia. They didn't like how we turned Israel into mini Moscow, with roughly 1/8th of the Israeli population now speaking Russian as a native language. They also didn't appreciate all the vodka and pork that were being sold in the plentiful Russian stores. Most of these Russians are not jedi, however, and are not allowed to get married inside Israel, so the Israelis can suck it.

"The Russians in Israel are ethnic Russian citizens who are immigrants to Israel from ethnic Russian communities of the Soviet Union and post-Soviet states, and their descendants."

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russians_in_Israel

"As of 2017, there are up to 1.5 million Russian-speaking Israelis out of total population of 8,700,000 (17.25%)."
