I would put money on 2 guys over 1 any day. You are lucky everything turned out to be cool and it didnt come down to a fight. The best course of action would have been to pull your phone out and start recording, getting their faces as clearly as possible. State the time, date and location as clearly as possible without drawing attention to yourself. Then get away and call the police if you are sure there is something wrong, and keep an eye on the situation.
Much love, nobody wants to hear about you getting hurt. As "hard" as we like to act, 99% of the time there is no reason to put yourself in harm's way until it literally becomes a life or death situation.
You had good intentions though. I'd rather risk looking silly than not intervening when I think someone needs help. You would have been a shit person if you hadn't done anything at all because you didn't want to get stabbed, or look silly. -
