I'll kick things off by bringing up a point from Anthony Robbins: "What you link pain to and what you link pleasure to shapes your destiny."

If you find yourself avoiding the pursuit of some goal, you may just need to rewire your thinking. The steadfast pursuit of a lofty goal can be not just extrinsically beneficial, but also intrinsically enjoyable if you approach it with the right state of mind.

Think of one goal that you've been putting off because it's "too hard," and rewire yourself to think of it as a potential growth experience; something that can be worth pursuing in it's own right, not just for some utilitarian machination.

Share some wisdom with other members of the NIS universe that can elevate us to new heights.

When I said "elevate to new heights", that's not what I meant.

God bless you all, you are all amazing people coming from a forgotten community like totse/zoklet and you should be proud of your heritage and unique outlook on the universe.

We as a community are poised to do great things and those of us that aren't a success in our daily lives still benefit from the wealth of information shared on this platform. There's a reason we haven't quite bit the dust yet and it's because we are strong and weathered from being here before the days of Facebook and 4chan.

We are internet veterans and the coolest people you will ever meet in real life. There is nothing we can't do and all of us know that on some level

    Let's go!

    Stopped at Anthony Robbins

I think of this video where this comedian bashes him on a video of him on his Island

Gadzooks is what I said when I realized just how unmotivated I was after clicking on this thread I'll tell ya what.

He stops the video too much and talks about how he's hating on Tony Robbins too much but I kinda felt him, dunno if it was just blind shitting on him or not, I've heard lots of people say he's helped them and has good shit.

I have some good motivation techniques but I'm not motivated enough to articulate them into BBS posting form. If this threads still relevant I'll share some tips. Granted by "motivation" most of my tips are for crippling, can't get out of bed, try not to jump off a bridge today depression and drug use.

The catch 22 is one of my best tips is drug based, but if you can keep it under control, its a great boost.

The thing about Tony Robbins is that, sure he's kind of over the top mainstream self-improvement, but he's genuinely a wise individual and worth listening to.

I only quoted him to get the ball rolling here.

There are all kinds of sources of wisdom out there to draw upon.

What if you know the goal isn't a "potential growth experience" like for example I've had a goal of deep cleaning my place and rearranging some furniture and I've had that goal for a few months but every time I even consider it I'm like "well shit I wanna play some video games or I wanna drink" or something else and so basically I just say I'll do it tomorrow or another day. Procrastinating.

The reason I say it won't be a growth experience is because I've done it before and it was just a.. A cleaning. I didn't GROW as a person I don't think. I wonder if there's a trick to convincing myself that I could grow from chores and tasks like that.

You raise a really good point. There are certain tasks that we have to engage in simply to persist. Those are precisely the kind of task I find myself procrastinating on all the time because it just feels like "why bother cleaning? It's just going to get messy and have to be cleaned up again..." Heck, I'll find myself putting off showering or brushing my teeth for a few days because of the same line of thinking.

I think it comes to down to forging habits as the intrinsically desirable goal. Dedicating ourselves to cleaning, or showering, or exercising, or whatever, even though it's not going to be a fun use of our time. But the very act of building a positive habit can be seen as a growth exercise for the greater the good.
