   To be honest, I never have until recently. It was just easier not to. Then I had two realizations: 1) Our family is drifting apart. My generation (third in America) will be further apart geographically and in terms of familial closeness than our parents, or their parents; and 2) Only my sister and I have the initiative to bring them together under one roof. If I don't care about family politics, my family is in her hands. I don't believe that is in anybody's interest, so at some point, when I'm ready and able, I have to assume responsibility for organizing holiday dinners and other reunion functions if I want to keep our third generation in this country connected. I don't know if this can be successful, or indeed whether it's even worth trying, but I want to believe that we'll be okay.
