I never made one because no one explained to me about this cloud in the proper sense. As much as I know about this and that of computers.. it's fragmented. lots of fragments but I just found out that cloud isn't just a HDD I remotly dump shit into (like a damn old days of AOL mailbox dumpsite?)

It's like a sandbox for applications. it's safe from the Internet.. so no one can access it, it's in house. I think it's safe.

Well, it'd have to be hosted on a seperate server. I doubt Lanny is willing to deal with the legal ramifications of hosting a totse-esque textfile section in 2018.

The Internet will go down, along with a global electric and media blackout. 2 days the world will sleep. then comes a great quake of newspeak.

"totse.. what is totse" and none around to defend nor deny, totse.

Even Jeff had lawyers on retainer to deal with the kind of bullshit attention hosting that shit entails. Your country hasn't "gone to shit", hosting bomb making guides and instructions on making deadly poisons has always been a hazardous terrain to navigate.

I mean, it has gotten shittier, but it was always pretty shit.

whats the difference between hosting user submited post and user submitted txt files containing bomb making guide ?

HTS, You seem fairly bright. Can you tell me Why Jeff Hunter posted this stuff especially when his Wife (I believe Alice was his first wife) at the time was studying to become a Physician which she then went on to become the ER Head Physician on Call (The one that makes all the decission) at John Muir Hospital in WC.

I mean WTF? Yes, We get it. "Anyone can go to the local Library and get this information right off the shelf". Oddly, that time Lannny asked me how my spychts was treating me in the 2013 post on Zoklet that I found a copy of the other day and posted, I was in the computer room at Walnut Creek library just up the street from his PO Box. it's weird how all of that comes together. I know it seems trivial but I wanted to leave my Carbon Footprints all over. hell I even purchased a nice Blueberry Muffin and Coffee at the Coffee house In-house while typing that moment out. so my credit card and library card were used on the same day. required ID there

they also have tons of free DVDs if you want to watch movies on the computers there.

and just up the street in a different direction is where Dr Alice worked. where I was hit by a car shortly afterwards with a broken foot and wrist and was thrown out after told nothing was wrong with me. I was also falsely accused of having a Machete on BART some weeks later. and Threatened by someone I now believe I know who it is while sleeping at the BART station.

fun timez. not really. but why would Dr Alive be with this guy? I mean I can understand him helping us learn the dirt of our Nations conditions and politicians crap and for him teaching or encouraging us to learn to program (for game design, etc) but wtf?

Also remember this. How did he end up in Berkeley .. because it's one of the west coast hubs of technology? not really. I think it's geared more for Biology study. this is what's weird. His wife in the Medical Field and Him in Computers.

    12 Monkies shit.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that, at least the way totse's textfiles were submitted, they would not be protected by Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act or whatever. The publisher of the textfiles was pretty unambiguously Jeff Hunter, and not the inviduals who wrote them. Posts on the forum are different, in that the publishers are the individuals who wrote the post. Lanny will probably shutter this site the first time he gets subpoena'd over the forum, and that's understandable. He's risking a lot as it is. No reasonable person would shoulder the risk of publishing highly curated user content that could reasonably be argued to be published by the host.

To get section 230 protection you'd probably have to run it like a wiki or something, and even then... it's going to bring unnecessary and unwanted law enforcement attention.

    idk.

i thought that maybe txt file submission system could be made similar to post submission system, like with all the users name and submission time logged and displayed.

it could be just like posting posts or blogs, but instead of being in the bbs, its in another section in an uncurated, on molested way.

Yee, that's what I meant by you'd have to do it like a wiki or something. It could work I guess, but like I said, ain't nobody got time for the aggro boner you'd be giving law enforcement and that they would in turn be trying to dick you down with. 😓

I have no obligation to fight a subpoena on anyone's behalf and as always, you should assume I won't, but the story I'll tell you is I won't close shop after being served a subpoena. You should assume any information that's ever been available to me as administrator as NiS should be considered to have been made available to law enforcement, but I don't make any promise that I will or won't terminate service after receiving a subpoena. I'll tell you the story I'd like to put forwards is that I'll make that decision on the basis of continued service potentially leading to further immoral breach of privacy or not, but don't take my word.

In any case, section 230 protections are pretty much irrelevant in the context of text files. I won't ever publish content as text files (like as distinct from forum posts) without personally reviewing it, and I won't publish illegal content, so I don't need section 230 protections on that. For what it's worth I built some simple CMS code into ISS to support some other features and I've been contacted by posters before about publishing text files. My position remains the same, I'll publish novel textfiles (or BBCode files) if anyone wants and their files don't break the relevant laws of my jurisdiction. To be honest the main reason we don't host text files here is no one actually submits text files. If someone wants to put forward so much content that my simple CMS doesn't support it well I can expand pretty quickly at that point. The reality is that, as far as I've been able to tell, no one has anything to say that makes sense to present as part of NiS content.
