Alan What?
[annoy my right-angled speediness]
Just finished the last episode last night. I really like this show. It's set in an 80's-retro-futruistic world where most people seem to be poor and unhappy. There's technological advances like AI and virtual reality but everything seems really dingy and analog, people are lonely and constantly bombarded with advertisements and can even use a service called "ad-buddy" where someone will follow you around and read ads to you if you cannot afford things like subway fare, or hire a "friend proxy" if you have nobody to talk to.
The show is about Owen and Annie, two strangers each with their own problems, who enter into a drug-trial. The trial is combination of a series of drugs used along with input from an artificial intelligence to create simulated experiences, with the aim of diagnosing and correcting any mental problems by rewireing the brain using simulated experience. This is not a cheesy romantic show, but Annie and Owen do become friends..
It's hard not to give too much away but I really enjoyed this show. It's super trippy, dark, involves schizophrenia and depression and drug addiction and cool stuff like that but what really drew me in was the style and theme of this show.

Maniac is really, really good. Jonah Hill acts his ass off, so does Emma. Only one scene was kinda hard to watch(Emma Stone as an action movie spy badass?), the rest was mesmerizing.
This was a really cute series but I would not watch it again. I'm kind of a one pump chump when it comes to shows. The only thing I like to rewatch is Star Trek.
