    But the whole "burn in hell for eternity for not believing in God" thing. Doesn't that seem a bit overboard? Especially since it's, ya know, GOD? He could clearly just say, fuck off devil. If he couldn't, hes not truly the God.

    I am an expert of biblical data. The fact is, nowhere in the bible does it say you would burn in hell, neither does it say there is a hell, neither does it say God would burn anyone in a hell. This is simply a nice campfire story the corrupt clergy use to milk cash from their unwitting victims, nothing more. Gehenna, the fiery pit that burns day and night mentioned in the bible represents an actual garbage dump which existed in ancient times, where sulfur pits were used to dispose of garbage. The reference to being thrown into the fiery pit was a figurative association to that pit, meaning that if you were to be thrown into such a pit there would be no possible return. In using this illustration, the author, God, simply wanted to drive home the result of the Second Death - as if you had been thrown into such a pit, never to return. Irretrievable. People don't actually burn in an actual hellfire.
