2016-03-14 at 7:27 AM UTCLets say if you had 40 birthday candles. And each birthday candle was assigned a value 1-40, the total value of the cake would be 40 + 39 + 38 + 37....+ 2 + 1. If you had 40 birthday candles, it would be your 40th birthday. If you wanted to find the total value of all the candles from every birthday for your entire life, the number 40 would only occur at the age 40, the number 39 would occur at age 40 and 39, the number 38 would occur at age 40, 39, and 38. And so on.

Lets say if you had 40 birthday candles. And each birthday candle was assigned a value 1-40, the total value of the cake would be 40 + 39 + 38 + 37….+ 2 + 1. If you had 40 birthday candles, it would be your 40th birthday. If you wanted to find the total value of all the candles from every birthday for your entire life, the number 40 would only occur at the age 40, the number 39 would occur at age 40 and 39, the number 38 would occur at age 40, 39, and 38. And so on.
