    You have to read the comments, as the statistics are very misleading, but TLDR too much competition.

    At the same time income for AirBnB and the like rose, showing the problem is too many people (due to rampant immigration), not enough infrastructure.

    But yeah, I don't know how anyone thought driving for rideshareunregulated taxi companies was going to be a good longterm plan. It amazes me that that it remained profitable enough support yourself with for so long.

    How is it any better than being a code monkey?

    Both are totally unregulated and have no union protections or anything.

    I guess at least coding is hard enough so that supply is restricted, but what happens to those with no money to get a qualification and too low an autism level to slang computer apps for a living?

    I mean this is techno peasantry were living in.

    In principle nothing really. Just that, exactly like you pointed out, relatively few people have the requisite mental deficiencies enjoy or to be good at programming whereas almost everyone can drive.

    I make moral defense of our divisions of labor, the system is set up maintain class divisions, keep the poor poor and make the rich richer. I'm just saying it seemed inevitable that the "gig economy" around driving cars never had much of a future. To me fair, many people in that space didn't really have alternatives, but no one should be surprised that it's getting harder and harder to turn make a living selling labor almost everyone can do in the most commodified way possible.
