There is the last stage of developement in San Francisco's SoMa new downtown area. Oddly, San Francisco is the Hub of the Network Cities.

And Howard Beale was a character's name in the film Network.

This means something. This is where Satan builds his American Thrown. At the corner of Howard and Beale.

the Greyhound busline is there too.

plans for Howard and Beale (Now called the Trans bay District)

The larger Oceanwide Center is being built right now. Neither of these will be higher than 950 feet. The pussies in San francisco that run the show don't want buildings higher than 1100 feet. I say push them to 5000 feet high. Half a mile or more. I say do it.. live on the edge in Earthquake Country. besides, we need the living space. build them up and not out.

I entered a startup competition one time. The winner was an open scammer who wanted to start his company in .... San Francisco.

It's the hub of the lottery economy - if you want nonsense with a one in a million chance of getting rich there's no better place.

And people only look at those who got rich.

he too wanted to build them higher. and minimalist homes for the homeless.

But some say he was involved in the seedy. We know others in San Francisco are. but was he.. and did he die of natural causes?

San Francisco has the excuse of earthquakes at least.

Dublin, Ireland has similar rents in many areas, but bullshits about skyline, etc.

I had a gf who paid most of her salary in rent.

The idea is to enrich the property owners. ie. the inevitable result of capitalism.

There's plenty of scummy stuff in SF politics but I have a hard time imagining anyone assassinating ole Ed. I mean who would even want to? He was fairly pro business. I can't really see a nimby organization taking out a hit lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was in some shady stuff, same as any other politician, but even if he was, I thought his policy was reasonably good.

Quizi Capitalism should be the rule.. You want higher apartment (as in how high up for the best views and better designed) then you pay higher rent.

lower floors is where the weirdos live.. except the first 2-3 floors those are pricey too because they're lower for convience and escape during catastrophic events.

but floors 4-5 all the way up to say floors 60 in a 100 or more story building is where the losers live. the underpaid like myself. Loser in flat # 666 on the 6th floor the loserest of loserness :(

I won't argue against tall buildings. They're logical, and seem (to me so far) to help with economic productivity.

Although I'd love to see a study, which controls for those situations where the government stuffs a high rise with problematic people. Like the niggers in Pruit Igoe, or the Irish in Ballymun, or the French in pretty much any of Le Corbusier's schemes, which seemed to socialise and promote crime and anti-social behaviour. Probably due to a lack of law enforcement within the towers, which quickly became nasty crime ridden ghettos.

Note I didn't say drug ridden ghettos. Supposedly middle class neighbourhoods have the most drug consumption associated with them. I heard that if you shake a particular rich neighbourhood around here, pills will come out.

A high rise must have it's own police, governance, etc. to survive on its own. That high rises lacked this is due to the calibre of people who were stuffed in them during the 1960's, etc. as much as anything.
