Anybody here prefer the touch of a beautiful album cover over the immaterial pixels on a flickering screen?

Post pics of your collection - I will as soon as I get moved in

Now that I have a job I can finally buy albums again, something I haven't really done since 2006.
My goal is to build the ultimate collection, I want a huge shelf with thousands of cds and a few hundred vinyl records.

My first car only had a CD player, so I have most of my favorite albums on secondhand discs. I'll list the ones I listen to regularly:

Tears for Fears, Songs from the Big Chair, Seeds of Love
    Fiona Apple, Tidal
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Show Your Bones
Aphex Twin, Selected Ambient Works Volume II
    Tricky, Maxinquaye
    Belle and Sebastian, Tigermilk
    Elliot Smith, Figure 8
The Smiths, Louder Than Bombs, Rank
    Björk, Debut
System of a Down, System of a Down, Toxicity
    Miles Davis, Kind of Blue
    DJ Shadow, Introducing…
    All of Nirvana
    All of Radiohead

    Here's my classic setup.

And one of my more revered albums. The actual one I bought as a young-fella-me-lad back in England in 1982, I kept my most valuable vinyl where a lot of people unloaded them when CDs took over. It's worth a pretty penny these days.

Yes a broad range covering all genres (except hiphop and rap of course), the metal stuff is probably a minority actually.

Yep. Whenever I hear of an album I think I'll like, I'll youtube it a few times and, if I like at least half of it I'll buy the physical CD. If I only like a couple songs I'll usually just buy them at one of the online services

Hey PHM... you like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.

He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
