Cooking Ethiopian for the First Time

I fucking love ethiopian food, if you've never had it you should give it a try. Hate the niggers all you want, but these particular niggers cook some grade A stuff. Even slave owners had their slaves prepare their meals so even the most racist among you should be able to give the stuff a try.

Anyway, I wanted to try making it myself for kicks. The biggest hurdle was finding teff flour which is the main ingredient in making injera (that spongy sour bread that all the other stuff is served on). Had to make the hike to whole foods and fight my way through the hordes of hipsters to get some but by god I did it (and as it all trips to whole foods I didn't manage to make it out with just what I went in for, sigh). Now I gotta see if making this shit actually works, excited to give it a try. To start I'm just making Yekik Alchia which is split peas in a turmeric sauce since it didn't require an insane number of spices I didn't have like many of the other dishes I looked at but if it goes well I'm going to try to working up to being able to make a few of the typical stews/sauces/whatever that you find in restaurants for a more kinda authentic vibe.

Anyone ever cooked ethiopian food before? Anyone even eaten it?

The one time I was in DC I had ethiopian and it was pretty boss, thought it was just a coincidence there was a restraunt near where I was staying but I guess not.

Give it a go mang. It's usually a couple of different really thick stews/mashes with a bunch of spices served on a "sourdough crepe" type of thing. I don't know if that makes it sound appealing or not but it's really good.

There's an Ethiopian restaurant where I live. Never been there though. I ate at a German food restaurant here in town once because for our Communications class (required capstone course, def. not a comm major) we were required to eat at a restaurant that serves a type of food from an ethnicity that we'd never tried before. Well, it was shitty and fuckin expensive as hell. I didn't know it was going to be so much money till after we sat down and looked at the menu. It looked so homely from the outside. But, now after reading this, I wish I would have gone with the Ethiopian restaurant.

You guys beat me to all the jokes.

I've never tried Ethiopian food though. I googled it and not much of it looks very appetizing. Maybe there are some great dishes out there though.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with German food. I've never met anyone who went to Germany and enjoyed the cuisine. I wonder if even germans like it. I actually kinda like sauerkraut but it's already kinda heavy and it seems like everything else is just like pure meat/fat/grease heaviness.

It's not visually very appealing because almost every dish is like a thick stew or paste but the flavor is great. Think like indian but less spicy (like hot-spicy) and lighter. Also Injera is hard to describe without trying it. Like "sourdough crepe" is the best I can think of but it's just like its own thing.

I'm specifically going to try Ethiopian food tomorrow because of this thread.

If I get sick or whatever I'm going to write you an angry letter.
