No, in one of Jeffs Business.. his software became widely used in Industry Standards including Disney, ABC (which owns Disney now), Then Viacom, Labs in the bay area and so on. I believe it was connor periferal. I believe Mr Hunter worked at Seagate as well. they make Hard Drives and stuff. Their corporation is in Fremont next to the original Tesla Plant which makes the S models.
Jeff was heavily an influential person.
These type of HDD are used as server drives for high quality video -

There are 2 reasons I can think of but neither of them would be a cause, in my opinion, to totally abandon what he created. -

Because things cooled down after 9/11 and the feds did come and start removing pages from this BBS
then from archive (which I still believe robot.txt has something to do with erasing shit out?)
things chilled down, I never went back after a month or so after that (second incident in canada) and then he became fairly strict but also between 2002 and 2009 he let others do most of the admin/modding
he neede to go to work and focus on his job.
Many believe totse.com was some kind of government back funded project. 20 year contract.. or 10 then another 10 etc.
I've heard this being said.. but this is a real thing. just discombobulated to all fuck. -
