   In the top right corner of every discussion forum is a "Subscribe/Unsubscribe" button. Set it to Unsubscribe for every forum. Now delete all your notifications, and then delete them all again from the Trash folder. You should now only receive Thanks notifications, which you are unable to turn off and will have to delete from your Inbox and Trash folder as they come in.

   I think you should divide the Message Center into three sections, the messages, the thanks area that is more of a compact list, and the area with replies in recent threads. By default, only PM send an alert.
