I just thought up a design for a news/media agggggregggator to monitor and graph various topics, was wondering if anyone's done similar lately. I'm looking for a low-bandwidth, low-load way to get headlines and metadata - rss seems ideal but I'll likely end up using closed APIs and/or just wget/string enhancementing.
Off the top of my head I'd probably want to pull data from major news sites, blogs (blogspot/livejournal), facebook (maybe) and twitter.

Only thing I use RSS for is podcasts. It's still a thing.

I was under the impression it'd been phased out, but from the look of it the standard's been changed so the old default links no longer work. most sites have it as an icon under social media now f0r some reason.
I'm planning on putting together a simple dashboard to be able to guage different websites' coverage of specific events relative to their political views and other events, ideally to be able to find patterns and make predictions, and ideally also to be able to track articles that are silently 'amended' after the fact
