The hardware wasn't up to par for Widescreen "HD".
Most of the games suffer from blurryness due to the low res native resolution and have aliasing up the ass.
If Sony would have kept the PS3 as an SD console and the CRT market would have stayed around longer then the console would have been so much better, they could have focused on much better graphics, draw distance, physics etc.
Earlier I was thinking about how different it woudl have been as an SD console, how much better games like GTA IV or Final Fantasy XIII would have looked.
It was wayyyy too early for "HD".

360 released without 1080 support and those models are garbage, no one wants to buy them.
Honestly I've played two games for the PS3 so I can't make broad commentary but the low poly counts bothered me a lot more than resolution issues. Honestly I thought the GPU handled nice enough texture to stand up pretty well today.
