I actually went over the reasoning for that at some point in the two hours of video. Because HB is the forum that receives the least moderation on the board, the median coherency of a thread there is pretty low. I'm not saying HB is bad, I think there's plenty of funny threads there, but because it also has the highest level of inane threads or threads which are entertaining to like 3 people on the site it makes sense it be opt-in for inclusion in latest threads. -

While this is the same justification given on totse/zoklet etc for disabling rep/thanks and latest threads for HB, on this site I'm not sure it's a good choice. The population here is small and a lot of them use "latest threads" to browse by default, and I feel like it's only going to end up killing HB and sending people to shitpost on other boards that do show up. You aren't saving people from seeing much because hardly anyone is posting. Plus, I mean, you made a feature where people can choose which forums they like seeing content from - it should show everything and allow you to enhancement out the noise. Don't take it upon yourself to decide what users wanna see. You've given people tools to get rid of it if they decide they don't like it. That's enough. You can't decide if you like something if you never get to see it because the admin thinks you won't.
And most importantly, I shitpost clones of threads from other forums into HB because I know they'll show up together in "latest threads". You're ruining that for me. Nobody will see my clone threads because I'm too nice to shit up the real boards and most people won't even bother to change their preferences. -

I mean it's your site, but like most people aren't going to bother to touch their preferences/even notice it's an option. If it's a bad experience for new users, you made it so they can change their experience if it bothers them enough. But some folks might like it, and not putting it in the latest threads is like... man just get rid of HB and put HB threads into the mongolvoid if you're so worried about new users. -

Well no, that's the point, HB threads aren't trash threads. I mean at least not in the technical sense. I think it's reasonable to have something with lower quality control on an opt-in basis than to say "anything of any level of quality gets mixed in latest threads by default". Knowing latest threads one of the most heavily trafficked threads on the site I either have to say "well, random nonsense belongs here" or "random nonsense threads don't belong anywhere on the site" and neither is very good. -

That was mean. Mean and cold. Even if nobody here REALLY cares or contributes to most HB threads, everyone, EVERYONE, likes at least looking at their titles as they scroll past. :)

I get that but like... there are going to be users who you tolerate but who aren't productive for this site's image/who new users wouldn't like. If you added a block feature you probably wouldn't put those users on block by default. Same kinda concept. Either they belong on the site and people can choose who/what they don't like seeing, or they don't belong on the site at all. I really do get it though.
At the same time, like... NIS isn't gonna be the next reddit. The kind of people who are going to stick around on a site like this are probably going to stick around regardless of whether they're seeing HB content or not, and I don't think the ones who are willing to stay here would be staying in spite of HB either. I don't know. I'm not an expert. You are. But NIS probably has bigger image problems than HB. I really can understand the justification, but you're running a shitposting site that gets some decent content, not a decent content site that gets some shitposting. Well like I said, I made HB enabled by default again. We'll try it out and look at latest threads enhancementing numbers in a few months and maybe revisit it when registration reopens. -
