   No, it was a very well circulated and popular story on old Totse.
   
   I think it came from an old book. Basically, you built a mirror firmly into the face of a small table, took it out into running water, waited until the sun was directly overhead, held the table just below the surface of the running water so that it braced the bottom of the brook and, if you looked into it, you could see black creatures from another dimension staring back at you. If you got spooked and somehow accidentally dislodged the mirror (by pulling up too quickly), the shadow figure followed you around for the rest of your life. It was attracted to your fear.

   But yes, that's what it was. The mirror in the lake story. I tried googling it with some keywords ("New friend+rest of your life"). It was floating around when Zoklet was a thing, because I posted it in Michael Myer's CreepyPasta thread to be ironic.
   
   It's actually kind of a cool story.
