Posting this one because it's likely to get big, fast.
First and foremost, this is almost certainly a purely political false flag attack.
The group in question:Several former European and Arab ministers also attended the meeting of the Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) - an umbrella bloc of opposition groups in exile that seek an end to Shi’ite Muslim clerical rule in Iran.
NCRI is a rebrand of the MEK, an anti-Iranian government group that has long been listed as an international terror organisation (they've been carrying out assassinations and bomb attacks since the 'Islamic Revolution'), but has enjoyed financial and logistic support from the US since essentially agreeing to deliver intelligence on Iran during OIF.
MEK was also responsible for the so-called ISIS bomb attacks on Iran last year. Two suspects in Belgium were intercepted by Belgian police on Saturday, with 500 grams of TATP, a home-made explosive produced from easily available chemicals, as well as a detonation device found in their car, a joint statement by the Belgian prosecutor and the intelligence services said.
If Iran was interested in destroying this group, they would not order a mid-level diplomat to cook a large volume of AP to do so, especially with prominent US and European (who are still holding to the JCPOA in defiance of the US, no less) public figures as potential collateral damage.
My suspicion is that the 'attack' was orchestrated by the MEK, likely with US backing in order to try to damage the improving relations between the EU and Iran. -

Belgium though. Is the idea that MEK sold information to the US to pay off and/or pressure Belgium into falsifying charges? Seems like more moving parts than necessary when you could do the same thing in a US airport where you don't have a third state involved. Not that I'm saying Iranian bomber-diplomat seems very likely either. -
2018-07-03 at 3:11 PM UTCno, based only on what I've read so far and their history, I think it's likely that MEK engineered the failed attack specifically to implicate the Iranian government, likely with the guidance of US parties.
It's important that the attack targeted the EU directly because certain people are very unhappy that France and others are continuing to build ties with Iran after the US had a tantrum and tried to tear up the JCPOA - the only real beneficiaries of this are people who want to see ties between Iran and the EU destroyed. -

what's being reported less is that the French government intensely wants the deal to go through as it forms a lodestone for future economic growth, and is considering subsidizing corporate losses to US sanctions (to some degree) in order to go ahead with it even if the US intends to punish France for honoring the agreement. -
