Hiking in the Black Hills

   This was 2 days ago, I went up Black Elk Peak, the highest point between the Rockies and the Pyrenees of Europe. It rained most of the time I was there so I was lucky I got to spend as much time backcountry as I did. Everything smells like fresh cut lumber and people are really friendly.

   Formerly Hearney Peak, the highest point east of the Rockies and west of the Pyrenees.

   Appalachians is all smoller I guess. The nice part of this trip is you can hit the Badlands in the same day because they're only 2 hrs away from the mountains.
   
   Aslo if you come from I-90 you'll get to a point where there's WALL DRUG billboards literally every 60 seconds. It's a gyp unless you wanna buy some the Injun art though.

   Awesome pictures. I currently live in a trail town, but it's more wooded and less elevated. I'll be traveling north a little later in the year, I've yet to see a "true" mountain in my life. The smokies were underwhelming in my opinion.. The Badlands just have a cool vibe..

    There's a trail with a bunch of fossil exhibits laid out along the way, but it started raining when as I was heading back to my car..was hoping to see some rattlesnakes but I think they specifically make the trails so you won't get close to any.

    It seems tempting to tip over the crazy rock formations but when you're actually out there in nature, and your mind starts thinking about all the millions of years it took to become like that it gives you a sense of solemn respect for the forces that be.

    My sister lives over by the Smokies, I'd love to go back out that way sometime and check it all out. I've been to the South twice and absolutely love it. I'm running out of stuff I like to do (that I can afford) here in the heart of the midwest. Corn field! Soybeans! Corn field! Cattle! Corn field! Hogs! Corn field! No trees to be seen...

    Oh, for sure! You'll notice right away when you come through the area that everybody and their dog has a Jeep Wrangler, 4 wheelers, those XUV things made for off-roading, dirt bikes, motorcyles, (Sturgis is right there) and off-roading trucks of all kinds. I'd love to bring a camper and the honda sometime, looks so fun.

    Rattlersnake don't care about trails being made. they soak up the sun to give them energy. they're all over the place in California in parkland areas.
    
    You should visit Death Valley in early Janurary as to not die of heat stroke or visit Yosemite or Pinnacle Park or Desert Sierrahs. there are monumental stone structures and caverns everywhere. there is even an underground Cavern in the Northern Sierrahs outside of Sacramento.
