Kingdom Come: Deliverance

This is one hell of a game. I cannot explain how appreciative I am of what they've done here. Historically accurate knight simulator. Every fighting technique is a real life technique. Every castle is a real castle. Every piece of armor, every sword, every decoration and piece of clothing, is all based on the real lives of 15th century Bohemians (where the Czech Republic is now.)

When your sword becomes dull, you can sharpen it manually at a grindstone. Angle has to be just right or you will ruin your blade.

There is a drinking skill, with different perks you can get as you level up this skill. Careful of blackouts, as you may wake up in a strange place with items missing. Particularly confusing if you are doing hardcore mode, which has no compass and doesn't show your position on the map. You have to navigate by the sun and stars and roads and landmarks.

You, like most 15th century common men, don't know how to read. Try and all you will get is jumbled letters. You can learn how to read, but improving your skill takes time. Initially this means that you will still have a lot of jumbled letters and the occasional incomprehensible word, but eventually you'll be a pro! Knowing how to read can effect quests, and is a great asset in a world where only the privileged learn to read.

The world is fucking gorgeous. Forests are lush, and the mountains stretch wide over foggy hills. Taking a ride on your horse is a relaxing and peaceful experience until you get ambushed by three burly cumans who want nothing more than to stick their pale sandnigger dicks in your unkempt asshole.

    Lockpicking is fucking garbage.

Economy is historically accurate. Weapons and armor are outrageously expensive. You can clearly tell that poor farmers just getting by would be totally unable to afford these things. This makes punching an unarmored drunk with your plate gloves all the more satisfying.

Sword play is engaging. You have 5 directions to worry about, and need to be attacking/blocking accordingly. Stabs, slashes, lunges, and feints are just a few of the moves you can utilize to defeat your opponent. Takes a while to get used to. If you've played Mount and Blade, it's kinda like that, only more developed. Shooting a bow is difficult, and takes a real amount of stamina. I don't know if you've ever shot a bow, but it takes a lot of strength and this game reflects that.

This is one of the few games I would categorize as atmospheric. You really feel like you're in 15th century Bohemia. There are real castles that you can still go and visit today. They really put a lot of effort into making this game as historically accurate as possible. It is only a fantasy game in the sense that the individual stories of the characters is made up. Everything else is historically accurate and it is refreshing.

It is buggy as hell, but so far it's been completely worth it to me. They seem to really care about fixing bugs and giving the community what they want within reason. This game is currently on sale for Steam users. I recommend picking it up if you enjoy historical settings at all.

Also want to add that this game has a very cool codex to read through which describes what life was like at the time. You do get the feeling that they cut a lot out of it to make it more friendly, but it still provides a ton of information on the world it's set in.

PS: this game is racist, homophobic, and sexist as fuck. WHY ARE THERE NO BLACK PEOPLE? Where is the gay romance? Where are all the strong, empowered women? WHY CAN'T I BE A STRONG EMPOWERED WOMAN? Czech developers are Nazis.

Racist and homophobic games are the best kind of game.

I'm not a gamer (aside from those set in Middle-Earth), nor am I up to date on the hardware, but after reading the OP I could see myself getting immersed in this one. I will look into it and see if it's worth an upgrade.

Is it something in their water that makes them good at making rpgs?

Like the stuff that makes germans good at train simulators and scat porn?

i believe the dev team is czech but close enough.

I found that while the story and gameplay are quite cool and innovative, there's not much to do outside of it unlike witcher 3, which can be played for 200 odd hours and still have content.

EDIT: also all of the skills seem to have a threshold where it goes from difficult to OP as fuck, lockpicking and combat being primo examples. combat is just too fucking easy at a certain point, but it's a struggle early on.

The one thing I don't like in the stuff I've seen of it is how slow the dude swings his sword, they're not that heavy.

You get faster later on, but your character only really knows the basics at the start.

Also it'd be impossible to fight if the sword play was faster. It usually speeds up/slows down which is strange at first but you get used to it.
