The first Bioshock

Is a masterpiece of a game and just so happens to tie into my atlas tugged review as the game itself is Ken Levine's take on the book and how it would play out in an underwater setting. Even today, it techinally impressive with a killer plotline and setting. Gorgeous, gorgeous game, and I'd argue one of the best xbox 360/ps3 generation games.

I started re-playing this a while ago and it holds up really well. Good mechanics. Good progression. Good story. Good atmosphere. There's really nothing bad to say about Bioshock. I remember being totally taken aback by the water physics when you first start the game. That intro is something special. Stepping down the main hall, having a splicer assault the elevator, the power failure, shooting electricity for the first time.

It's a masterpiece. Don't understand people who say the game is scary though.

When you first play it, you have no idea what you're getting into and it hits you with this visceral kind of fear of the unknown, not knowing the secrets of Rapture, but knowing that whatever it is, it's something special.

Like when I got to the very first splicer you're talking about, I thought it might be a boss that comes later in the game or something, no idea how powerful it might be. Turns out, not very. But the game is able to keep you guessing about just the nature of the enviornment and the enemies for a long time, and not very many first person shooters can do that.
